Almost seals the fate of one of the 4 Mega paid centers and wingers. Nylander will bring a bigger return. From a business standpoint he's going to be gone. Marner is overpaid and now under-performing. Leaf fans are going to be angry about losing Nylander, but would you rather him than Rielly?

We are in a good position with the cap, we likely move on from a D and at least one forward, not the big 4, especially if we do well this season.

Rielly spends at least part of his offseason s here. I have actually seen him walking around downtown in the summer.

If he is still with Tessa virtue she is a from here and stays here. Good for him.

Burke must be losing it

For next year there will need to be some contract clearing.

Kerfoot will be gone, and given that after July 1 he'll only have $750k in real money left, he'll be very tradeable.

Ritchie probably should be gone too, and hopefully he starts scoring a bit to make a 1yr/$2.5 hit attractive to some team.

Holl would also be one to probably move.

The only painful move that I see coming is trading the 33yr old Muzzin next summer - but at least given that he'll only have $6m left in real money over 2 years ($3m/yr), we should be able to get something good back for him.

Or they just trade Kerfoot and promote Robertson. Take your Willie hate elsewhere bro.

I have been a basher but I think Dubas did well here

I also think it's great planning for a blow up if they f*** it up you replace Marners hit with Riley at 4 mil less

Hey a contract that people can't dump on Dubas for overpaying a player on. :D

Decent deal for a good player, but part of me still kinda wishes he would get traded and see what we could get for him.

I didn't watch the games so I don't know for certain but wasn't Nylander one of your better playoff performers? Plus he costs less. I don't understand the logic of moving him but I am very much out of the loop.

He was.

My assumption is they can't trade Tavares (NMC) Rielly, and Matthews now, so it comes down to one of Marner or Nylander. They can also aim to remove Muzzin/Kerfoot but that's only happening if the team wins a round or two.

Otherwise, they will likely go for bigger changes including firing Dubas and/or removing a core piece.

We are? I thought we were unanimously in a bad position with our cap.

I don't think that moving Holl/Dermott plus letting Kerfoot go all of a sudden makes the cap situation better. Campbell (or another goalie) needs to be signed too.

I'm far from the biggest Leafs fan, but if Nylander is traded, I'll be pissed.. I really don't care if the return for Marner would be less, the cap space it frees up would be more valuable.

Why would this be the case?

The cap rising 1 mil + Kessel's retention off the books almost covers the Rielly salary entirely. Trading Kerfoot would give them additional wiggle room. As would replacing Kase with a cheaper RFA next season

Great deal.

I will always appreciate those that would take a discount to stay with the team.
And pretty easy to absorb next year. Kessel's $1.2 comes off the books, salary cap likely goes up $1, and hopefully Kerfoot heads out of town.

Thanks for the response.

Campbell, Sandin, & Liljegren will need raises of some type next year.
Guess that'll be around $3M extra to find?

Look at Dermotts contract trajectory. Sandin and Lily likely both sign for no more than 1 mil or less.

Lily in particular won't be in any position to ask for more than his qualifying offer without substantially more playing time
