I hated the Tavares pick from Day 1..... to me there were two options
1. The guy who already signed one team friendly contract and stuck with us through the "there will be pain" days
or
2. The most talented player relative to the NHL since the Original Six days. Like apologies to Mats, Dougie, Clark, Sittler they were never top 5 in the NHL players.
I mean he left 1-1.5 mil a year on the table if he had of gone to free agency. Rielly may have some defensive shortcomings, but he is a team first guy and he brings alot to the Leafs. Great deal.
Rielly spends at least part of his offseason s here. I have actually seen him walking around downtown in the summer.
If he is still with Tessa virtue she is a from here and stays here. Good for him.
Burke must be losing it
Campbell? For sure.
Sandin and Liljegren? Very likely QO accepted territory, unless they go on significant production boosts. They'll be around what they are making now unless you give them term.
Engvall and Kase will be a little harder to determine.
Almost seals the fate of one of the 4 Mega paid centers and wingers. Nylander will bring a bigger return. From a business standpoint he's going to be gone. Marner is overpaid and now under-performing. Leaf fans are going to be angry about losing Nylander, but would you rather him than Rielly?
Still think he's about $500k overpaid. These extra 0.5s start to add up
The only contract I'm happy with is Nylander. Matthews is decent
Tavares is definitely overpaid but that's UFA for you
Marner and his contract need to GTFO
Look at Dermotts contract trajectory. Sandin and Lily likely both sign for no more than 1 mil or less.
Lily in particular won't be in any position to ask for more than his qualifying offer without substantially more playing time
Not all of West Van is ultra affluent. I had to take a water taxi or ferry to get to HS in West Van. We were considered hicks by the mainlanders.Mo grew up in an extremely affluent area of Vancouver. It is probably one of the most elite areas in the country to be honest. I really don't think money is everything to him, as I assume he has always been very well off.
Mo wants to be a Leaf. Something that is extremely hard to find. To me, he is the ultimate leader. I will be buying his jersey next 100%
The rise in cap and Kessel's retention coming off the books will alone cover Reilly's raise.
This literally adds no cap burden moving forward.
how do you pay him less than Mrazek ?
if of course he continues to out play him
Right, so between Campbell, Sandin, & Liljegren they'll need to find around $3M more

Since when is the cap going up?
I would add 100% homegrown and obviously loves this team and this city100% agreed. The guy has been thru it all, plus he handles the media well and has the respect and love from his teammates and fans.
The NHL’s salary cap is projected to rise to $82.5 million for the 2022-23 season
US TV deal with ESPN + Seattle expansion
Yeah, Rielly has earned to be C more than anyone on this team. And he will be a Leaf for life, which is not certain for the rest of them. The only top player on the Leafs who doesn't think for themselves
BTW why the hell isn't he captain yet? He's the longest tenured player there who has been through the abyss. He has more emotion and passion in one finger than JT will ever have. Probably one of the worst captains I've ever seen in my life.
