thats right, i completely forgot about kessels retention

i still think we are asking for too much from the bargain bin, its a risky plan[/QUOTE]
i agree but the only other option is to trade a bigger money guy and break up his cap hit in pieces

Not all of West Van is ultra affluent. I had to take a water taxi or ferry to get to HS in West Van. We were considered hicks by the mainlanders.
well that's because you live on Bowen Island by the sounds of it?....and not West Van? Unless Bowen is still technically West Van

But yes, to your point, not all West Van residents are made of money. But the ones that can afford to have their kids play at Hollyburn are likely not part of that "less fortunate" crowd. I think it's a fair assumption money was never really an issue for the Reilly's growing up. But I've assumed and been an ass before...

Nonetheless, they raised a good kid by the looks of it. Putting his team success before his own financial gain/ego. Happy to have him locked in!

They have to clear 300k to fit this deal if they bring back the exact current team at the same salaries.

Mikheyev probably won't be back so that frees up another 1.65m. They may need to throw Kerfoot overboard if Soup hits it out of the ballpark or they could let him walk since they have Mrazek. Lots of options.

How? Sandin and Lilly are already with the team and not likely to get a raise.

Campbell probably gets 1.5-2 mill more on his next deal.

Sandin and Lily are both RFA after this year and will be getting raises. Look at what Dermott and Holl got from Dubas. I think he's learned his lesson but 500K (250K each) isn't too much of a stretch.

Campbell is UFA, and Mrazek is already making over $2M more. I would argue $2M more for Jack is an absolute minimum. If he has a good years and they get him for $4M total ($2.35 raise) they'd be fortunate.

There's close to $3M right there

so then he can leave and sign with someone else and not be their starter either since ppl won’t be giving UFA money to a backup with a small sample size.. no matter how positive he is to his teammates.
i never said he'll be looking to break the bank or anyone will give him a big money deal

but if he outplays Mrarek why wouldn't he be looking to make more than the 3.8m that we signed him too ?

Trading Holl and Kerfoot and taking little to no salary back is the only way to fit Rielly under next year with Campbell (which Campbell is VERY important)

Solid contract for a very good player. Thrilled to have Rielly for 8 more years.

This is top pairing money, but not #1D money. Considering that Rielly is a player with strengths and weaknesses, I think this deal is quite reasonable. For all strengths and weaknesses of Dubas's tenure, I have appreciated how he's built the defense.

Given other deals around the league, this is pretty solid.

Would’ve preferred 6 years over 8 but whatever.

This likely spells the end for Jake Muzzin, he has no movement protection until July 1st 2023 the Summer before his contract expires. If I'm a betting man I'm betting he's moved in the next 12 months.

EDIT: Nevermind the wording on capfriendly was funky. He has full No Trade protection right now.

Well Reilly just showed he wants to be a Leafs. And would not take the absolute max.
Fair deal on both sides.

Big fan of Morgan and the contract but selfishly I was hoping he would come a little closer to Ekholm in Nashville or Petry in Montreal both in the $6s

???? no chance. They were way older.
Reilly is making 6 million during those times.

Good deal imo, he could have gotten more in free agency for sure. Its a contract imo that shows he wants to win.

The team is outrageously handcuffed now cap wise. And I'm just gonna go out on a limb here, but I would accept a league minimum contract to fill a roster spot

But in all seriousness, I guess we should expect a big trade this summer.
