So no nmc final two years, and I’m assuming heavily front loaded, making those last 2 years easily tradable. That changed it for me from “fair” deal to good deal.

looks like a good deal for the Leafs.

I really like Morgan the person. I think Morgan the d-man has a few warts in his own zone, but I could see him getting way more as a UFA, and I doubt we would have been able to get anyone better for less on the open market.

In my dreams, Sandin rose into the number 1 d spot and played for peanuts, but this is a realistic outcome.

somewhere down the line a forward may be heading out of town

They have to clear 300k to fit this deal if they bring back the exact current team at the same salaries.

Soupy will probably get in the 4M range. Sandin is getting a raise, still upset we burnt a year of his ELC for no good reason, Lily slight raise.

Fair deal.

$70M / $7.5AAV / 8 years with us = $70M / $8.58AAV / 7 years on the open market.

Value-wise he's priced about $400k under Dougie Hamilton's deal.

He was certainly due for that raise and I'm happy Rielly is still happy being a Leaf despite all the ups and downs so far in his career here.

So he will be 36 and getting paid 7.5mil

Good deal for a few years, then becomes an Albatros during the back half of the contract. Offense/skating are the first likely things to drop off, and if he can't fall back on playing solid defense... yikes. Well, its not like Dubas will be around then, and that's how gm's think these days.good luck with that.

Hopefully for the Leafs sake, it's buyout friendly and he has to pick at least 5-10 teams he'd be willing to be traded to, in the latter years. Just scary term at his age, and given the type of player

Why the f*** are you on our boards ? You're a canucks fan, stick to the mains. There's a thread there discussing this for all "neutral" fan bases

Matthews honestly could have held out for more... he is a generational player. Marner is the issue, he doesn't deserve what Matthews does, he's on a tier below as a player.

Very true. I guess (whether fair or not). I look at what McDavid got. Yes he took a heavy discount but wow, it would have been nice to get Matthews on the same deal. He wanted 14M on an 8 year deal and let's be real here, McDavid is just on another level compared to Matthews. Personally, Matthews looking for the same cap % AAV as guys like Crosby and Ovechkin signals to me he wanted every dollar he could get (which is his right to do so).

Regardless, I think most people will be content if not happy about this deal.

What a waste. Reilly is not elite, no way he is a number 1 guy on a team that wants to challenge.

He is a will become only adequate as a 2nd pair defender. Can you imagine how poor his defending will be by 2025
This deal pays him as the 22nd highest paid dman in The NHL for next season, and he's better than everyone behind him except for Slavin and Theodore. For this season, that deal would have him as the 19th highest paid dman. This is also before 5 big names (Fox, Letang, Klingberg, Lindholm, Giordano and maybe Risto because GMs are dumb) get signed that should push him down to ~27th which seems very fair.

Great deal, glad he took a little home town discount. Damn well could have made more on the open market.

Holl a healthy scratch now as well, maybe management does care after all.

Was shocked by this one. Happy with the AAV compared to what is going on. Also, nice to see a FA willing to stay.

By far the best long-term contract for a core player. Nice to see a player not bleed the team as much as possible.

Now get rid of Marner.

I saw on Cap Friendly Mo doesn't have one of the massive frontloaded or salary bonus deals, wonder why. Thought that was a trademark of the Leafs.

Wonder why.
