Seriously. Mo just took a discount on his biggest contract at age 27. The least Marner and Matthews can do is take a SLIGHT discount in their next contract.

I would still prefer to move Marner.

Tavares is overpaid for sure, but you're right, that's what you spend on the best UFA available. The fact that little mitchy marns makes anything remotely close to that is disturbing.

Debates will be had on the value of this deal ad infinitum but I believe this to be a hometown discount in terms of how the UFA market goes for defensemen. I do find it hard to imagine Rielly playing his current active skating athletic type of game far into his 30's. Can he grow into a more stable calming type of game by then? I think yes but will he still be a 1st pairing type at that point?

I think this was right in the sweet spot for the Leafs and Rielly. The Leafs probably said they were not giving him more than 60 mill, and Rielly probably did not want to take less than 60 mill.
