Riellys dad is a huge Leafs fan. I'm hoping he talked some sense into him for this to happen the way that it did, unlike some other player we all know too well.

We haven't had career Leaf players from draft to past prime / retirement since Kaberle (was here most of his career). I'm glad Rielly is going to join that list.

The Leafs have now around 5.3M of cap space next season with Campbell and Mikheyev as UFAs re-sign and Sandin, Liljegren, Kase, Engvall and Amadios as RFAs. The RFAs should be very easy to fit but Campbell is obviously going to be asking for a decent pay raise. I'd say his new contract will be between Driedger and Andersens cap hit depending on term and performance this season, which would be around 4M or so.

The Leafs will probably peddle Kerfoot and Holl and replace them with cheaper alternatives and promotions. They likely will shed Ritchie in some capacity as well. They might even shed one of the big contracts aka Marner but that seems unlikely or unnecessary.

It's pretty straight forward and simple.

It's a great deal. I think you have to look hard to find a bad thing about that deal TBH.

I will say I find the timing odd.

Clearly Mo wanted to stay in TOR. Something I really appreciate as a fan. He is much better than people suggest on here sometimes. My hope is that this core does in fact take that next step this year. Early indications are not promising. I think I would have personally held off on this deal until the season were done, because the direction of the club may be vastly different come that time.

Interested to see what form of NMC there is with this deal. Can't imagine there isn't some form of clause.

Overall, it's a great deal for a great player.
