I understand the excuses for his production in junior since he needs better players to dish to. Makes sense.

But here we can't use that as an excuse because these are the best junior players playing with him.

My go-to excuse would be that he gets nervous on big stages (draft). He's a recovering stutterer so it seems his nerves get the better of him at times. As the tournament goes on, expect Rielly to get better and better as he becomes more comfortable.

Sometimes I simply amaze myself with how right I always am.

Good things seemed to happen for Canada when Rielly got on the ice.. Could have won player of the game tonight (this morning?).

Would these be players who fail to have a worthy career and find it easier to blame the coach than their own shortcomings?

I am not going to argue this post as a general rule but sometimes a coach does a poor job in talent assessment or they chose to not play a player based on some grand "system" they want to impliment. Look at Sullivan with the Leafs as a great example. He showed all kinds of signs of being a great offensive player with us and put up points whenever he was given a chance. Quinn however, did not like him presumably because he was small and he rarely used him. Once Quinn used his GM powers to dump Sully, Chicago snapped him up and gave him a chance to prove himself. Sullivan went on to outscore every Leaf player not names Sundin that season and for the next several seasons as well.

great to see rielly with a 3 point game. this is what i expected to see from him.

i knew all those excuses were just that...excuses. was he paired with a new partner in this game? was he simply handed more ice time based on nothing? we know he isn't suddenly a year older overnight.

hopefully he keeps it going and helps lead canada to gold.

Actually he wasn't handed more ice time until he scored his goal.

in the first period he and ouellet were still being limited to a third pair role, when they probably deserve to be used as the first pair.

But coach seemed to finally wake up today with his team trailing and his vets murphy and hamilton sucking, and was finally forced to give the guys who deserved the ice time a chance.

so sorry frankie, but it seens like those "excuses" weren't excuses at all, but actually legitimate explanations.

no, they were excuses. the only thing that has changed is that our boy is playing better. starting to play like he's supposed to.

the coach is the still the same. rielly's age hasn't changed. his teammates haven't changed. his environment hasn't changed.

and it sounds like the group as a whole didn't play any better in this game. that was another excuses being thrown out there. rielly wasn't playing well, but it was ok, because the rest weren't playing well either.

all just foolish excuses. rielly proved it today. he deserves all the credit for that.

No, you were wrong.

coach screwed up badly, and it wasn't until his amazing team was down 2-0 that he was finally forced to stop playing favorites over guys who were more deserving.....and not surprisingly, as many here predicted, the more deserving players showed their worth when given the chance.

so what we heard after game one turns out to be legitimate explanations, not excuses.

So you were wrong.

Never would gave had the chance is Hamilton didn't get hurt for that PP. Reilly took his chance and ran with it... Like we all knew he would. We just weren't sure he'd ever get one.

Will be interesting to see what happens next game. That will prove Frankie either right or wrong. If Spott goes back to Rielly on the 3rd pairing and gives Hamilton/Murphy big minutes...then it's clearly favourtism. As far as i'm concerned....Reilly has earned more ice and it's his to lose.

no, not at all. nothing in his environment has changed.

rielly isn't suddenly older. the coach isn't suddenly smarter. his teammates are the same.

the only thing that has changed is the rielly has now played like we knew he could, like we expected he would. i refuse to take any credit away from him for that.

the excuses were ridiculous. rielly gets all the credit for this turn-around.

This one i'll argue. Spott was stupidly sticking with his supposed "big guns" even when they were playing badly. Reilly wasn't making mistakes...his play was/is the same. He is just producing more now that Spott HAD to make changes....his team was down 2-0 and they looked like crap.

Frankie is essentially arguing that coaches dont make in-game decisions or realizations.

On another note: Rielly has the best first pass, and is quite simply the best passer on the blueline

Liking this Ouellet Rielly pair. After the slovakia game Murphy shouldnt be playing much. Wheres all this great offense hes supposed to provide when he cant put up points on Germany and SLovakia? And I definitely dont want him out there with Yakupov, Grigorenko or Galchenyuk flying down the wing on him

spott finally learned how to use reilly

kadri and reilly on first power play unit in NHL, that would be not fair for some teams

I know i am getting ahead of my self, but the amount of skill with those two together, plus with kessel and gardiner

anyways
hope reilly keeps improving, go canada go

nail who?

murphy shoudl be benched 5 on 5, just used on powerplay

that is a good pairing, they are both dependable, unlike dougie

All of this has nothing to do with anything.

The coach let Reilly play more after he realized that the vets were not up to it, and Reilly capitalized. Reilly played as well as he did the last game, he just had more opportunity to do his thing.

Happy to see Hamilton suck.

Let's hope Team Canada coaching has seen the light,Reilly adds some real fire to Canada's lineup.

I am interested in seeing Rielly's performance spun into a negative from Frankie. I eagerly await the downplaying and questions to follow.

no one jumping off the cliff yet with Hamilton's amazing play? :help:

I swear, if Hamilton had/does one good play some posters on here will be on suicide watch.

That makes no sense to me. Who the hell cares about the Kessel trade when it comes to the world stage?

As a Canadian fan, I'd like to see Hamilton do REALLY well.

Fell Asleep after the first period and woke to a big comeback and not surprisingly led by Morgan.

Some guy said this yesterday:

One big game from Rielly and we will fondly remember the Subway series when he was the best Canuck on the ice, people always remember recency as opposed to not too long ago recency. Morgan has demonstrated elite ability, it's up to him to show it and make a difference.

Just what Morgan needed, a little confidence, now he is on his way.

Frankie is essentially arguing that coaches dont make in-game decisions or realizations.
the other argument is that steve spott and the team canada brass finally caught onto something that we, posters on a message board, knew all along. that doesn't make much sense.

my only point is that rielly proved that the excuses from fans were just that....excuses. he's responsible for his play, and he gets full credit for this.
