I think he looks fantastic with Oullete, what do you think?

Agreed. Side note I think Ouellet has been our best defenceman so far, this guy is great everywhere.

Dont get me wrong, Wotherspoon and Rienhart have been decent, but we need more offence on 5 on 5, and it starts with the puck possession of guys like Morgan Rielly.

Rielly, Ouelette, and Harrington have done well so far.

I expect more from Hamilton just as I have expected more out of Rielly.

Rielly has met those expectations this morning. He needs to continue and Hamilton needs to improve.

I dont expect anything from Murphy. Growing to dislike his style of play!

I don't understand why Reinhart was picked 4th overall. He looks like a really steady defenseman, no doubt, but he reminds me of Luke Schenn A LOT. i.e. someone who will always have skating issues but will be a big and strong shutdown d-man.

he has his moments and he does have a decent skillset.

the one advantage hes going to have going forward is size.

His brother is better just like Luke Schenn ;)

Ouellette looks like a good pick by Detroit, who haven't had much success of late with picks. 2011 NHL draft, didn't have this kid in my top 40-45 mostly because I didn't see him at all. Detroit also picked Sproul a guy I liked was picked after him, that should have been a clue.

Looking like Harrington and Hamilton should be the shutdown pair and Rielly and Ouellette should be the offensive pairing. Spott is not dumb, if he doesn't notice this then we are in trouble. Hamilton never looked good in the Summer series, and was only so so in the Subway series. I am not surprised he is overrated on the Main board, intact I pointed this out a few times. Someone remarked you don't leave the OHL D man of the year off the roster. If Murray was healthy maybe you do. But then again that reduces mins of Rielly.

The one thing I was more impressed with rielly in this game was his physicality. He almost never initiates physical contact so it was nice to see him do that today. I thought he was defensively sound and was buzzing offensively (although some of his points were flukey). Made crisp, heady passes and moved the puck very quickly.
Like others, I would hope for these pairings

Hamilton-Harrington
Rielly-Oullette
Wotherspoon-Reinhart
Murphy

I agree with these pairings. After all these trials and tribulations, maybe Spott is some secret genius who was looking for real chemistry???

Rielly should have 1 goal and 3(was not credited with 1) assists this tournament right now in 2 games tied with everyone's fav Galchenyuk in scoring.

Everyone still want Gally today?

I know one bad game to worrying about Rielly again...

Hard to tell at this point how much better Galchenyuk is.

Right now they're just shiny junior players.

You find out a lot more when they make the jump to pros.

Majority of Leafs fans would probably still rather have Gally, I was never one of them. Who just might be a better left winger than Center.

I have to agree with Zeke and co., sorry Frankie.

Spott seems like a complete tool at times. Not just at this tourney, but at his regular gig too. Now it's just being amplified at this stage. Someone brought up Quinn and Joseph at the Olympics, but it was one and done and Quinn quickly moved on. Seems like Spott wil go to the grave with his faves and what he precieved before the tourney.

I like Galchenyuk and would love if the Leafs had him. We never had the chance so its not even a point worth talking about. Just another team's player to bash I suppose.

I see Marian Hossa in him, if he is, I don't think anyone would be disappointed. I see Leetch in Rielly, choice of the 2, all things considered, no brainer I would take Leetch.

Rielly looking great out there. Dare I say better than Hamilton so far.

He's strong on the puck, makes smart plays, has a great a shot.

Really hoping he continues to get more minutes.

Gally has played really well with Kuraly.

Bergevin has made it clear, however, his future is in the middle, where his two-way ability, and dynamic skill-set are best suited.

I'll cheer for him, not the Habs. Hope he scores in every game, but they manage to lose. Lol

Dare you say?

He's been far better when given ample opportunity. We saw him start to open up today, and I think he'll really step up, now that we have two huge games ahead.

Big time players make big time plays, in big time games. Rielly is a big time player. I expect to see him have a lot of chances to work, as the US and Russia will look to put the squeeze on our forward group.

Case in point: Ryan Murphy is by far Canada's biggest liability on the back-end, yet Spott keeps going back to him because of his ties to Windsor.

I'll be a nice Spitfire fan, and tactfully point out that you meant Kitchener, not the Rose City. Lol

no, you were wrong.

the only thing that changed is that the coach was finally forced to play the guys who deserved it (like Rielly) over the guys who weren't earning it (Murphy, Hamilton), because his team was down 2-0 and 3-1.

the only thing that changed was that the coach played him - which is exactly the legitimate reason you were given for his game 1 performance.

legitimate reason, no excuse.

you were wrong.
you are absolutely dead wrong. i don't know why you want to take credit away from rielly for what he did in this game.

if the coach's hand was forced, it was because rielly forced his hand with improved play and/or work ethic. i'm giving the kid full marks for that. you can continue to be negative and tell us all these "outside factors" are at play, but i'm giving rielly the credit he deserves.

i was given the excuses that he's only 18, his coach is stupid, his team is playing "just ok" around him. none of those things changed. nothing in his environment changed, proving the excuses wrong.

he's responsible for his play, he's not responsible for coaching decisions.

spott knew it all along, which is why he pencilled in Rielly on his top pairing to start the pre-tourney games, and why he went back to Rielly the first time his team was in trouble in the tourney.

the fact that he panicked a bit to start the tourney and reflexively decided to lean on his vets in game 1 instead of the rooks doesn't mean much in the end.
so now spott knew this all along, and is just now recovering from some momentary panic to start to the tournament? really? he had massive panic against germany?

other excuse-makers say spott "finally learned how to use rielly". so which is it?

why are you guys trying to make these outlandish excuses? just give the kid full credit for what he did in this game. this is what we wanted and expected to see from him.
