This guy will be an interesting player to watch & keep track of, he certainly has the skillset. IMO he needs to bulk by about 20 lbs before he plays in the NHL for his own safety & that should not be a problem over the next couple of yrs. I could see him slot in as a 3rd line centre replacing White in 2 yrs, if White hasn't improved substantially.

I cant get over how sturdy he was when taking hits from men in the AHL at the beginning of last season (going by the shifts and clips montage). he was listed below 160lbs at the draft I believe and he doesn't get knocked over easy.

Some say that we draft too safe but I personally love the players that look like sure fire bottom six guys and at 18 years old the sky is always the limit. I personally prefer those selections to picks like Jarventie who either make it as a top 6 goal scoring threat in the show or end up overseas.

I thought Greig was too safe of a pick as well, but he's got some very dynamic skill and passing ability. Quickly becoming one of my fave prospects now.

Like so many Sens prospects, this kid is a total mystery box. But hes already shown that we have good reasons to believe that there is more than meets the eye to his game.

He absolutely has Brad Marchand potential, and its a great comparable for him. Im talking Marchand from age 21-27yrs of course - not the beastly superstar version of Marchand that he evolved into somehow......(like wtf for real lol).

The younger Marchand was a 50-60pt elite kevel pest/agitator (if thats even a thing...). Whatever he was, he was a legit high IQ pain in the ass to play against that could score at a good top six level, and didnt hurt his team with his antics for the most part either (never over 100 PIMs fwiw)...

But even if Ridly tops out at something like a Pageau - a high energy sparkplug that plays a gritty and hard game thats much bigger than his size would indicate - and will provide some decent secondary scoring, and PK/PP help as need be. That would be a tremendously useful player for us, and still fantastic value at #28.

There was a noticeable improvement in his strength and ability to handle the physicality of the AHL from the start of the season to the end of the season. In the Shifts & Clips series I created you can see this change when his jersey number changes from 9 to 14. You can see this at the 38 minute mark of the video. When he rejoined the roster and is wearing number 14, he looked very strong on his skates and in puck battles. The other thing that was impressive was his ability to make intelligent and dangerous passes when pressured. There are plenty of examples where an opposition player pins him against the boards and he is still able to keep control of the puck, assess the ice for potential passes and create enough space to create a clean pass to an open team mate. He also does an excellent job of assessing the ice prior to being pinned so he is able to anticipate where the pressure is coming from, evaluate where his team mates are on the ice, determine an optimal pass to facilitate continued possession or a scoring chance, brace for contact and then execute the pass.

They mentioned Fisher as a comparison on the radio today and I just don't see it...
Fisher seems to be a favorite comparable to many players. Most are bad.

Donavan: “He played super hard, so he just reminds me of Mike Peca. You don’t expect that at his size, but he gets in your face and is dirty.” Better...

No I dont either, Fisher was a much bigger, stronger person and a better skater. Greig seems more crafty, dynamic and dare I say it dirtier?... Mike Peca honestly seems like the best comparable I can think of.

While he was very tough and hard to play against, Peca also played at around 5’11 180 so I agree size wise that comparison is much more realistic. I know some on here are too young to have seen a prime Mike Peca but holy shit if Ridly Greig can become a similar player, adding him to Norris and Pinto, the Sens will be stacked at center with players who are very hard to play against.

Peca was a freaking stud prior to the lockout. If Greig becomes a similar player we are laughing. Loved him in Buffalo.

Great post....You cant just collect top 6 skill at the draft, you need to draft all sorts ...Which is why I really think we drafted a guy like Boucher at 10,as most who see him see a for sure nhl player...Even if only a bottom 6 grinder, need these guys too

I like Greig a lot. I think he needs a full year in the AHL though to develop his game. He was one of Belleville's bright spots early in the season last year.

Peca was a freaking stud prior to Tucker targeting his knee. If Greig becomes a similar player we are laughing. Loved him in Buffalo.

Peca had some moderate success but he was never the same after the Tucker cheap shot in 2002.

Funnily enough I know someone who had Peca as a client and was watching Game 5 of the Leafs and Sens that same year with him. Peca, apparently, was cheering and hooting when Alfie destroyed Tucker and scored the winning goal. :vhappy::yo:
