26 goals in 65 games is bonafide first line production. You can scream "39 points!!!!" all you want, but that is a fact. I love how you conveniently leave out that he missed a decent chunk of games.

No it's really not. If 26 goals is first line production what do you call guys who score 40, 50 and 60 goals? Gods?

I call those players incredibly rare and sparse, especially in today's NHL, which featured, let's see, three players who scored 40 goals or more.

Now, tell me again how 26 goals in 65 games (whether you like it or not, this is something that has to be taken into account) isn't first line goal production.

yeah but that's what.. 3 concussions now? Not really a good track record either. Dubinsky + Anisimov >>>>> Nash

Do you know how many players scored 25 or more goals this season? A lot. Are they all fist liners too?

I think your comparison is a moot point. Datsyuk wasn't 30 years old when he had his breakout playoff season, he was 26. Nash has already passed his peak goal scoring age and has nowhere near the motor Datsyuk has. Nash's problems are not fixable by either a good center or good coaching. The only person who can fix Rick Nash is Rick Nash. And he's still going around in interviews saying "I played pretty good I think". There's a reason why Columbus fans were happy to rid themselves of him and why Detroit fans never really wanted to get rid of Datsyuk. Datsyuk pretty much replaced Yzerman's production from day 1 of Yzerman's retirement.

Nash may not be 26 or whatever but the bottom line through the same amount of playoff games Nash and Datsyuk are comparable. It's not like Nash is 39.

Coming in relative peace -

Any whisperings of Nash playing hurt this postseason? I did a brief google search but nothing came up.. I can't imagine he was healthy.

Ouch

Nash was 5th in the league in 5v5 goals per 60 minutes in 2013-14.

Since becoming a Ranger, he leads the league in 5v5 goals per 60 minutes.

Trading Nash would be idiotic. I don't think there is even a word for what it would be to buy him out.

We have trouble scoring, yet you lot want to get rid of an elite goal scorer based on a small sample where all the bounces went against him. ALL goal scorers go through such stretches since goals are such rare events and therefore very susceptible to variation in small samples.

We don't like these kind of sensible and rational posts here at HF. No goals in finals = scrub. Overpaid and useless, trade him for a light beer in a plastic cup. My favorite drink when I cruise HF saying ridiculous **** that isn't meaningful or accurate.

I wouldn't say idiotic...it's actually quite impossible. Bottom line with Nash is he isn't earning his paycheck, and has not since joining the Rangers. His production in the playoffs, seemingly scoring goals that didn't appear too meaningful, didn't help the Rangers either. Is he garbage? Not at all. Is he a serviceable regular season top winger? On the Rangers, yes. In the league? Perhaps. He did help this team get to the playoffs, which is objective one and next season it will not be easy to get there. Winning the Cup is the ultimate goal, but realistically, only one team each season can achieve that. The team is stuck with Nash. Until there comes a point at which buying him out is more economical and productive than leaving him in the lineup (when he crosses that path of third line checking winger playing like a $2MM a year guy), he's a top six forward on the Rangers.

Serviceable? The guy has averaged 35 goals over 82 games with the Rangers. That's a little better than "serviceable." Give me a break.

I too hate being stuck with a 30 goal scorer who faces top competition from other teams on game-to-game basis.

Just thought of this, but I wish we gave Nash a chance on the left side throughout the playoffs. Give him a different look of the ice and match up with different defenders on the ice. Usually players play on the side their handedness is on. He was fine defensively so I wasn't worried about that. And while Ovy is a special kind of player, once he moved to RW his career was rejuvenated.

Would he be, though? 7.8 mill of an increasing cap for three years after next year. The guy can score a ton in the regular season, which is always necessary to just make the playoffs.

Plus, whether we like it or not, his value is low right now, too. It's not like nobody is suspicious of his playoff credentials and we can sneak him away without people knowing.
$7.8, even with an increasing cap, is still a tough pill to swallow. Nash looks like a world beater during game 40 against a team that is not making the playoffs. He looks like a complete marshmallow in the playoffs when the opposing team engages him. I think that is very noticeable.

I understand that one needs to score during the regular season to make the playoffs. But at this point, he is a playoff midget.

What about this?

trade Nash (if he moves the NTC)

pick up 2 18-20 gaol scorers for 9 million.

If Nash has a bounce back year then we resurrect the Fire Sather thread.

I don't doubt Nash will put up big regular season numbers.
This team needs that safety valve to get through a long season. He just does not have that extra gear. And it does not seem he has that bleed for it factor to his game.
Trading him would be silly.
