Rich Peverley collapses on bench, game postponed till April 9th

You think the Blue Jackets will still be distraught/rattled during tomorrow nights game? I know by then, tomorrow is a new day and even though it happened to the opposing player, they witnessed a scary situation. Hopefully they can stay focus and play strong against the Wings.

Both Nashville and Detroit won their following after the Fischer's collapse games. Detroit beat the Avs 7:3. The Predators played the Jackets, so that probably shouldn't be counted as a regular win.

I can't imagine it'll have any lasting impact on their play since Rich seems to be on the road to recovery. I actually think they'll be a lot more ready to play now than if the game played out.

If they resumed play, the game would've ended going on Midnight. They probably wouldn't been back in Columbus until after 3am. Once game was called, JD had the plane ready to go. Now, they'll probably be in their own beds by a little after Midnight...that and only playing a little over 7 minutes will have them more rested for the wings.

Actually, it looks like they'll arrive around 12:35am...Original flight plan was arrival at 1:59am. However, that wouldn't have included a 45+ minute delay if they resumed the game after Peverley's emergency.

Just read that another Dallas player - Chiasson - is being taken to the hospital as well after suffering a severe panic attack due to the incident.

I've started CPR in a 3X6 Hospital bathroom before, if his heart had stopped, you would have seen someone doing chest compressions

Chest compressions performed in the tunnel:

Salazar said of the treatment, “We provided oxygen for him. We started an IV. We did chest compressions on him and defibrillated him, provided some electricity to bring a rhythm back to his heart, and that was successful with one attempt, which is very reassuring.â€

So it is confirmed they're restarting the game (full 60 min) with the Jackets up 1-0?

Edit: Just wondering, obviously Peverley is more important.

Former CBJ goalie coach Clint Malarchuk.

Yea I came here to talk about this. Watching that event with Peverly unfold left me horrified and not in any mood to watch the hockey game. Why in the hell would they make the call to continue the game back then when a goalie got his neck slit by a skate and almost died on the ice? There's no way anyone was focused on that game, and for good reason.

I was driving so I heard this unfold on the radio. McElligott handled himself pretty well. Better than Davidge, from the sound of it. What a crazy thing. I hadn't seen the video until a few minutes ago. Hope Peverley is ok and able to get this thing resolved so he can have a normal life and maybe even return to playing.

It's clear that anyone suggesting they should've continued has never been involved in such a thing. I bowl and one time about 14 years ago or so, a guy dropped at the end of practice. Watching the paramedics work on him, me being the one holding the IV for them, was traumatic as hell, and I didn't even know the guy. This was worse, since it was obvious they were not going to resuscitate him, but still, even if he had come to, there's just no way we could've continued that night. It was quite a thing to experience and has affected me to this day. Give these guys-- kids for the most part -- a break.

I was watching the Dallas feed and their announcers handled the situation extremely well. Often not saying a thing just letting the picture and the eerie silence convey the message.

I agree about Peverly, just hope he doesn't let that athletic machismo lead him to do something foolish. Stars are going to have to dig deep to get by this incident, Chiasson and Lehtonen. Hopefully they play well and everything turns out okay for them.

Wow. I got up early this morning to watch the game on DVR, and just wow. Thankfully it seems Peverly is going to be OK. Stopping the game is absolutely the right thing.

I went back and watched the original feed. You could see Peverly collapse about 8-10 seconds before Shelley said anything, when the Jackets broke out toward the Dallas goal. Play didn't stop for another 15 seconds maybe, although the Dallas bench started reacting pretty quickly.

It reminded me of the Reds opening day 15-20 years ago when the home plate umpire collapsed.

Regarding the replay, why play a full 60 minutes? What if this happened midway through the third period?

My thoughts and prayers go out to Peverley, the Stars organization, and their fans.

I hope that Rich recovers fully and that life for all involved can get back to normal (or as close as possible) very soon.

I would guess it depends on the game situation. If a team is up by 3 and their are 7 minutes left in the game, then they might just call it. Similar to a rain shortened game in baseball. Maybe they make the same decision if its only a 1 goal game. Iif its a tie game at that point, who knows.

I looked at both teams schedules and there are only 2 possible dates that you guys can play each other: March 31 or April 9.
