So how many are going to get a Kadri fisherman jersey
I might just to trigger some of the greybeards ;P

While I wasn’t around for it the isles did win 4 straight Stanley cups with that original crest, and had some memorable moments along the way.

With the fisherman we had chaos and Spano.
If we won a cup with the Fisherman, would it exorcise the ghost?

It was a rough and very strange period. Not sure if there is enough voodoo to exercise the ghost of the fisherman 😉
Fair enough.

As an outsider to Long Island who also wasn't old enough to be rooting for the Islanders during that era, I have a hard time even imagining. Must have been frustrating, to say the least. To me as a fan of retro jerseys I just think they look pretty sharp. I echo the sentiment that at the very least, they look better than the recent "NY" alternates.

It’s been mentioned a couple of times here but the espn 30/30 “big shot” really explains the background if you want to know more.

The jerseys were just icing on the cake for what transpired over those five or so years of instability.

To make matters worse the league allowed Spano to drag that out for as long as he did. Embarrassing not just for the islanders but the league as a whole.

I've had the same 3rd jersey idea forever. Thick burnt orange stripe along the bottom of the jersey, kind of like this color:

View attachment 572651

That's the beach. Above that is royal blue - the ocean. At the shoulders, white - the sky. No teal. The logo is a light house, maybe sitting on "Islanders" (rocks). A couple of stripes on the arms. Maybe a shoulder patch or two. Call it a day.
Don't quit your day job.

"Too basic" is always the complaint that comes from people who don't understand the purpose of a logo (that's not a dig, just a common issue).
It is good. The best logos in the NHL fit this criteria. I would have no problem with them filing the current logo down to this foundation. The circle logo isn't good.

You mean like hiring a backup goalie straight to the front office because he was good at fantasy sports?

What logo did we have when that happened?
Clearly you didn't live through 20,000 people at MSG screaming "Fish sticks".

For those clamoring for the Lighthouse logo. That was supposed to be the logo they went with before the Fisherman however, the feeling was the way the lighthouse sat on the front of the jersey made it look like they were wearing ties. So, it was ditched.

I absolutely did, but I’m not fragile where I give a shit about rangers fans opinions.

Again, I’ve beaten this horse beyond death, there are plenty of moments in this franchises history where the logo on the uniform at the time doesn’t matter.

Was that Save the Islanders group formed in response to the fisherman jersey, or was it other stuff? My recollection is that it was the jersey....

The lighthouse is a subtle improvement over the fisherman.

At the time, there was what 5k season tix holders at most, attendance was poor all around. It was just the overall decline of the franchise from its hey day and slipping into the doldrums.

I understand the gravity of the situation at the time, but in the same regard, if we never rebranded and went through all of that. Would the fans demand we change the logo immediately to help distance our selves?

Nah isles fans were happy with the logo. Third jerseys are just a marketing ploy to grab fringe fans and make money. Which is every teams right.

No matter how bad it go especially just a decade off from a dynasty, us dire-hard fans would never have wanted any permanent logo change.

ALSO… I don’t think the Gang of Four flush with cash And was looking for a quick way to make a buck

Interesting, was this in the Fishsticks book? Would like to read on the rebranding came about, especially since people here stated the creation process was amateur.

I remember the fish sticks chant. Definitely an embarrassment as a fan. Fish sticks book was also a good read almost unbelievable, think the Garth Snow hiring as a GM on steroids. I usually give it a Re read every once in a while.

When they say "blue and orange only", I hope that doesn't mean there's no white (like the EDM jerseys).
The tweet has a bit of a logo, it depends on how they do it but it sounds like just take the fisherman jersey and replace the teal with blue or orange.

Seems like doubling down on the orange. Ick. If the purpose of the RR is sales, then does more orange really help that? People really want more orange?

We have to be good, and never wear them against the Rangers. Otherwise, these will trigger some serious PTSD.

The Sharks use 14 different colors and somehow it works, generally, each and every time. Looking at that fisherman jersey (blue, teal, white, orange, grey + the waves), there's just a lot going on - let alone the mariner thing. Going blue/orange is just going deeper down the ugly.

Further, what is the connection of the aquafresh wave on the bottom of the mariner? It has three 'waves' - just like aquafresh toothpaste logo. What does 3 have anything to do with the Isles? They have '4' on all sorts of things to represent the Cups. The lighthouse has 5 'beams' of light. What does that represent?

Just a big unconnected mess.
