Return for Matthews in a trade

You clearly didn't read my previous posts and I'm not pretending anything lol... I will not repeat myself to you sorry... Trevling's gotta make it clear to Tavares that he is not part of the future plans of the team and hope he accepts and a another team wants him... other than that, people like you suggesting trading Marner, Nylander over Tavares perplex me...

YOU CAN STILL ASK SOMEONE WITH A NO MOVE CLAUSE TO ACCEPT TRADE LOL

In "your" real world Tavares can't be traded but that's it...

Yes and as I mentioned, you can ask all you want. No one is disputing your ability to ask. It changes nothing.

Stop this spam, you're not even trying to add anything to the discussion. Your opinion/garbage is well-known over several identical posts.

Again because you don't get it, there is not even a theoretical chance this conversation will end up with JT waving his NMC. There is nothing to be gained in it for JT. Nothing.

You think all you need to do ask is ask nicely, or firmly in your case, because some players in completely different situations waved their NMC in the past, mostly to get on Cup contender while on reasonable contracts.

"Hey JT wanna wave your NMC so we can ship you out of your house for cap relief to bottom dweller? Forget your family and house here or the fact that you are already trying to win the Cup on a contender and any trade would likely limit your chances for your first SC. Let's be clear here, you are not part of the future here (no idea what that means since I can't get rid of you without your consent), I mean it, I will sit your ass and you can watch Netflix and chill for $11mill per year." Trevling

Here we asked, let's see if JT bites.

That would be extremely poor etiquette and would be viewed quite negatively by any agents when this team is considering free agent signings in the future. I hate this nonsensical notion of somehow pressuring a guy that you signed to NMC to move it. It’s pretty absurd tbh.
I completely disagree with you... Trevling didn't sign that contract and he's had 5 years to try and live up to it and he hasn't... time to move on now... Tavares should understand and fall on that sword with honour if asked to do so...
If you keep holding on to Tavares is the best move, we'll just have to disagree about all of this completely,
Cheers

So you disagree that other players and their agents would view it it negatively and they would share your opinion on the subject? If you are disagreeing with my point then I guess that is what you are saying. Hard to imagine players and agents supporting something that is clearly against their best interests.

Yup I've heard that but not buying it over a full season. Without Matty, JT can fill in for a couple of weeks and then the bottom falls out IMO. If anybody stays, it is Matty. Other than Rielly and Knies, I'm listening to all offers.
I'd keep Lily as well...otherwise blow it up..

You just admitted to not reading the post you are replying to ( because you got trigerred by the word spam - oh the irony :DD).

I mean I'm shocked you don't agree with a post you didn't bother to read. Thank you for sharing. Definitely not spam as I mistakenly marked it.

Well Colorado for one...after they stop laughing. I mean I Think Matthews, if he stays and stays healthy...both BIG ifs...may become the greatest Leaf ever...but that deal is not happenening today or anytime soon.
I agree. My wishful thinking is that Sakic falls in love with the thought of bringing the best American player to Colorado with Matty taking a discount to be closer to home and playing in the USA.
I'd keep Lily as well...otherwise blow it up..
yeah, they've invested a lot in him. He still has not reached his ceiling IMO.

Time will tell, Mats is right up there though, hard to predict what 34 will do in his career going forward……..
I'll take Sundin easily. What he lacked in the regular season he made up for in the playoffs with effort. Mats had nowhere near the talent to work with that AM has been gifted with.

Burkie would agree with him. He said he would not ask a guy he gave a NTC to waive it but would if another GM signed it. I doubt Leafs would play hardball with a hometown boy who wanted to play for the Leafs. Trouble is the poster would rather move heaven and earth before considering trading Marner.

It's a 7 year contract and he's played 5 of those years. Hasn't lived up to expectations by any stretch of the imagination...
There's a new GM in Toronto now so I believe absolutely no GM or player would begrudge Trevling or the Leafs for asking Tavares to wave under these circumstances, not at all...

Tell me why you think it's so taboo or unbecoming in some way?

Didn't read this one either lol
No need to argue with you...

Sure but I’m surprised that it isn’t obvious and I doubt you will agree with me anyway.
He’s captain of the team and maintained his production through his twilight years. He signed a 7 year contract with Toronto maple Leafs organization and negotiated a full nmc. His contract is with the TML and not Dubas. If TML pressure him to move his nmc it is quite apparent that they aren’t honouring the contract that was signed. Other players and agents would see that and realize the kind of unscrupulous organization that they are dealing with.
He is captain and has maintained his production year after year even though obviously he ages and gets worse and worse. 7 year ufa signings are a gamble but one thing is for certain, you are getting the same player in year 6 that you had back in year 1.
And if you don’t see that agents will view this negatively then we'll simply just have to disagree about all of this completely,
Cheers

The fact that you are replying without reading explains why you think someone is disagreeing with you.
Everyone agrees trading JT would be the best move. No one prefers trading Marner to JT.

Not a single post said we can't ask. Yet you keep pretending it solves anything.

Can you please explain to me what's in it for JT?
Play your own scenario out, that's all I'm asking.

Every single post of yours. You people don't get it, Trevling can ask.

I think it was Shanny and Kyle both involved in the courtship. The contract would be the GM but Shanahan had to be part of the "come home and win a Cup with us" pitch. I think thats enough of a connection the club doesn't ever make the ask.

"On Monday afternoon, it was Kyle Dubas leading Toronto’s two-hour pitch to Tavares and his representatives from CAA Sports. Flanked by Babcock and president Brendan Shanahan inside CAA’s Hollywood office, the 32-year-old GM delivered what was believed to be a well-prepared presentation to a 27-year-old centre that could become the biggest star in NHL history to test unrestricted free agency."

It's best for the team if Tavares goes out the "core 4", do you agree?
If your answer is yes, than it doesn't matter what's in it for Tavares... but if anything, what will be in it for him would be he gets to go to a team that actually wants him... or he can just stay and continue dragging the team down for the next 2 years because the previous GM gave him a full NMC 🤦🏻‍♂️ or let's just get rid of Marner, Matthews or Nylander because it would be supposedly such bad etiquette/optics to try and honestly improve the team by asking him to waive 🤷🏻‍♂️
It's really the best way forward imho

Sometimes if you really love something, you gotta let it go...

The problem always with trading a star it seems is it's usually impossible for both teams to win trade in the "now"... so let's say leafs choose they need a shake up and Marner is the problem with the core/team... what's the trade that leafs get for Marner that not only keeps team in contention now but helps put us over the top too? Might get a really nice package of future first and upcoming stars but again, how does this help leafs win now? Unless there's some disgruntled player 'ala Tkachuk looking for a new spot, it's just very unlikely that trading Marner or Nylander will make sense at this point imho

Do you think Shanahan still believes the team can win with Tavares as our #2 C or W?

Maybe team management is just willing to let their loyalties blind them to what the future has brought...

Tell me I'm crazy 🤪

If Mathews sees the fanbase turn on JT after 5 years because a PPG isn't good enough, you don't think he can see for himself what being loyal to Toronto means?
The team needs to honor that contractand the fans need to show some class

After the monster season he just put up for $6.7M that's way more than fair to the club. He outscored the next best Bruin by 46 points so let's talk about carrying the mail. He resigned for term at $350k more then Marner has been receiving for the least 4 years. I would love if the Leaf players would adopt this new Bruin formula and give the club a chance to compete on level ground.
But, but.....Mitchy is the best RW in hockey. Just ask any member of the Mitchy Mouse Fan Club.
