That deal is a big overpay on the Raps part for one year of Kawhi.

Whats the big deal with this guy anyway. I don't know much about him but how does he stack up against others at his position. I know he is great defensively, and had one monster season. But other then that whats the big deal about him.

top 7 nba player??

He is the best perimeter defender in the NBA, and the best SF not named Lebron\Durant.

top 7 nba player??

Top 7 really??

#1 Lebron
#2 Harden
#3 Curry
#4 Durant
#5 Davis
#6 Irving

and you put him as #7???? Really.

Better then Paul, Westbrook, GreekFreak, Aldridge, Oladipo, Embid, George, Butler, Thompson???

Other then 2016 the guy has been pretty average. Both DD and Lowry have better career stats then he does.

Kawhi is absolutely one of the best all around players in the NBA.

Having said that, not sure why the Raps would be interested in a 1 and done player. No way he would extend.

Lol @ Kyrie. Kawhi 6, Giannis 7

Sorry would put the GreekFreak, George and Tatum in front of him. Butler close to be in there too.

That's just SF. Which puts him out of top 10 players in NBA

That's nice. Its nice to have an opinion.

You're locked into Lowry\Derozan, and the best bench in the NBA. May as well take a swing at winning a winnable conference and rolling the dice in the finals. This is essentially the last year for the Lowry\Derozan core at prime (assuming Lowry's continues one more year).

Not only my opinion, people that know better then you and I that feel Kwahi is overrated and really only had 1 MVP like season before quitting on his team. Not sure that makes you a top 7 NBA player.

Than.

And no, intelligent people do not believe that. Actually, that sounds like a profoundly idiotic statement to make.

Basketball people, people that actually played, or are playing, or report on sports not just talk on forums like you and I.

Kevin Durant, Gilbert Arenas, Ben Maller..... Those aren't just any people. This guy has been called a me first guy, the success of being part of a Pop system, totally overrated, choked in playoffs.

I don't doubt that he is a good to great defender. And can score too. But to call him in the top 7 of the current NBA is bad. The guy has won nothing. And other then one fantastic season (I will give him that), he has proven nothing.

Lol to the above.

As for Kawhi. I don't see it happening. Moving Demar in a deal for Kawhi would be a good move if we can resign him. If we can get Kawhi without moving Demar or Kyle its a no brainer.

Chocked in playoffs? Now I know you don't know much about him.

The guy took it to another level in both his past 2 playoff appearances.

Not sure what you mean.

Full stop at Gilbert Arenas. I take back what I said. If he's not an intellectual authority, then I don't know who is.

Lucky for me, I continued reading and got to the bolded....
- 2013/14 NBA Championship
- 2013/14 NBA Finals MVP
- 2x All NBA
- 2x Defensive player of the year
- 4x All-Defensive Team

Yes with Duncan, Ginobli, Parker still playing. What I meant is lead a team. He was never a leader for that team. And when Duncan left, Leonard did nothing. Choked in playoffs.

I love how you can make statements like this when you also admit to knowing nothing about him:

Whats the big deal with this guy anyway. I don't know much about him

And as for winning "nothing" and proving "nothing":

1. NBA Champion (13-14)
2. Finals MVP (13-14)
3. 4x All-Defensive NBA
4. 2x All NBA
5. 2x Defensive Player of the Year

Keep smoking the pipe if you think we can acquire a top 5 player for Lowry and spare parts.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?!?!

Do you not remember his last playoff run? He was on beastmode

Edit: I'm going to guess you don't remember that playoff run as you say yourself you don't know much about him. Just as an FYI- he was outrageously good that playoff. Like.... Insanely good.

2016-17 playoffs:

27.7 PPG, 7.8 REB, 4.6 AST, 1.7 STL

.525 FG%, .931 FT, .455 3P%.

Do you not understand how good those numbers are while playing lockdown defence? That's a runaway MVP in the reg season.

So they hand out Finals MVPs to nobodies?

Two years ago the Spurs were considered contenders to take the Warriors down before Kawhi suffered a freak injury.

This has been great.

As for a trade itself, the likelihood of a Demar\Lowry going back to the Spurs is tough to conceive given the cap situation. The Raptors would be required to take money back in return. It also defeats the purpose of acquiring him for a single season.

As for his value, people are forgetting so many factors:
- Pop hates the Lakers (not going there)
- Pop would like to get to the playoffs again, and will not want to strengthen a rival (Not going to the WC)
- Player has telegraphed a desire to be in LA, playing for the Lakers, and is unlikely to re-sign (demented market)
- The Paul George trade (young (25) wing coming off of a poor season and young big man) should work as the basis

Powell (9.3MM) + Poeltl (2.9MM) + Miles (8.3MM) for Kawhi (20MM, + 15% trade kicker 3MM)

This is about as far as i would go in a trade. Though i'd assume that the Spurs would want Anunoby instead of Poeltl. Or both. Possibly even a pick.

Masai should go for Kawhi but he has to be careful not to lose all of our future pieces for a guy that will in all likelihood be here for 1 season.
