The way I see it, is we really only had a year left on our window anyway. We simply increased our chances for it.

That's exactly how I feel. Obviously, if they re-sign Leonard, it changes dramatically.

But the window for the present group was always going to be this year. Either together for another run with a new coach or they were going to trade one of their big pieces for something else to try and win the LeBron-less East.

I don't think it's necessarily about the value of the deal (which the Raps won anyway), but that they apparently told DeMar that he will not be dealt. So yes, the other NBA players are right that the Raps went cold heart and did this, but they also put DeMar into a really good scenario.

I was more referring to Kanter (I think it was him) saying he was traded for nothing. I can see the optics being that the Raptors did him wrong with how he's reacted to the trade.

I don't know that I buy he was told 100% he was not going to be traded, probably more along the lines of Masai wasn't looking to trade him, and he probably wasn't a part of the closest iteration of the deal at the time. We'll never know the full story, and I do get how people see it as cold hearted, but you kind of have to be if you want to compete with the big boys in this league, especially as a "non-traditional" market.

Enes Kanter also wants to fight lebron and then join up with him. I respect his stance on the nonsense in Turkey so I dnt wanna be miserable to the dude, but screw him

Shanny and Masai walk into a bar. They both take a deep, satisfying first swig. Shanny deeply sighs with relief.
Shanny: "It sure was tough to get a superstar. Movement of this magnitude never happens in our sport...or in this city for that matter does it?"
Masai: "Hold my beer."
Shanny: Get your guy to sign a long term deal and then talk to me.

All joking aside, a pretty big move. Although maybe I'm just not into basketball enough, but aren't the sorts of reactions we're hearing from the two principal guys in this deal kind of shocking. As in both being pissed at Toronto? As in one didn't want to go there and the other feels the team straight up lied to them. Doesn't really stop the Raptors from going for it this year. Guys will have to play where they are and the team is in a good spot with this move. But a pretty surprising reaction from all sides.

If I'm Magic Johnson; i'm honestly a little nervous. Khawai hates U.S media and Toronto is a world class city AND Toronto can offer $50,000,000 more. Not paying up for Khawai Lenoard now while Lebron is 33, could blow up in their face badly.

The ball will be in Torontos court the entire time. If its a 1 n done, thats fine, its still 1 yr of being as great as we can be. And then if he wants to leave, we can do a S&T and get something back from LA (albeit nothing spectacular like some think).

Might wanna practice that spelling.

Drake may work his magic with Leonard. But I think the arena and city will speak for itself. Players like Durant and Lebron love coming to Toronto. Players that previously balked at trades when traded here, loved it when they got here. We are Hollywood north.

Something tells me we sign Leonard long term. And it will only take a quarter of a season for Leonard to realize that he can quickly become the Lebron of the Eastern Conference staying with Toronto.

Raptors are going for a rebuild.

Wonder what they can get for Kawhi...and would he be traded in the offseason itself or at the deadline? There is no chance he's going to re-sign.

Not as much as what we gave up.

Too bad it went down this season, as it would have been nice to see this team give it one more shot with LBJ now out of the East.

The trade for Kawhi was a contract dump pretty much. If the Raptors want to start fresh in 2020, Demar had to go. Lowry is basically untouchable because nobody will touch his contract so we're stuck for another 2 years.
