Raptors Discussion: REPORT: Raptors trade DeRozan, Poeltl, Protected 1st to Spurs for Leonard, Green

I think there's a lot of Raptors fans who think DeMar has a lot more value than he actually does. No team is winning with Demar as "the guy", he's as one dimensional as they come

there is a decent chance that he ends up a bench player soon.

he's not really any good at anything unless he gets forcefed touches.

They're all good young core pieces that provided a lot of value last season, and will hopefully continue to improve. Sure they're not superstars, but neither is DeMar.

Kawhi is, and I like the risk Masai took to see if there's any chance we can re-sign him long term. If not, I still think this deal is a win.
I'd be happy to have a stable core of developed home grown bench/spot starters all day long. Use the money freed up when Kawhi leaves and our deals expire to sign good young FAs to fill the superstar roles.

If somehow Kawhi fails his physical and the trade is off, DD is going to want the next flight out ASAP.

If he fails, I think the raps wave it and still take him lol

Hey now, lets not drag demar over the coals and say he's a bench player.

Hes easily a starter and will do quite well in the spurs system.

He will run pick and rolls off of Aldridge and score a bunch in midrange where he shines.

So whats the lineup as of today?

Lowry - Green (?) - Kawhi - Serge - JV
FVV - Powell - OG - Siakam - ?

C Jonas - Bebe
PF Ibaka - Siakim
SF Kawhi - OG
SG Green - Delon
PG Lowry - Fred

and if feel free to replace Ibaka in the starting lineup with OG or Siakim.

And, back to missing the NBA playoffs we go!

But look at the PPG zeke!

That's the thing a lot of casual fans don't realize, he put up a crazy amount of shots.

Dropping 38/15/11 in the Drew ain't nothing lol. Watch the tapes my man, buddy is getting a whole lot better.

I've been watching them online when I can. It's something and I'm keeping my fingers crossed but I'll leave it at that

LOL can you imagine ....what if Leonard refuses to play here...unlikely as he needs to play this year. He’s the furthest from LA.

He has to play this year basically. If he sits it wont burn a year of his deal and he'll lose another 20 million after losing almost 30 already plus whatever he losses on his value for being a clown

Imagine if the Sens had given us back Karlsson in the Phaneuf trade.

This is comparable.

I agree! You have to keep players that are good, and, want to play in Canada! JMHO.

In a year, the Raps will have nothing to show for trading him!

Post from real GM -

This is a team pressing the reset button and maximizing their window, next year. Whatever happens after that, happens. Kawhi's bird right values will yield something as valuable as an asset worth something around the currency of Poeltl.

There is certainly a precedent for these types of deals. The fact that OG and Siakam are still on this team is something very positive. The future is bright.

I highly doubt Masai made this trade without knowing that Leonard was physically fine. No way you trade your star player for another with a chance that it gets rescinded. Would be utterly stupid management and detrimental to the organization.

I prefer the example of Malkin coming back in the Kessel deal, but the point is apt.

If Malkin had one year left and was guaranteed to walk? I don't think Leaf fans would have been happy with that. Now that being said, hockey rebuilding and NBA rebuilding are different beasts and a sign and trade in the summer would help ease the pain of losing assets in a rebuild that was guaranteed to happen anyways. But a sign and trade isn't guaranteed and if it's LA then LA has almost no reason to take part in it

LOL this...

“Both DeRozan and Leonard are reportedly unhappy with the move. Sources tell Chris Haynes that Leonard has no interest in playing for the Raptors.”

I’m assuming he means after the upcoming season..we hope lol
