Oof, rough game here... I got Josef Melichar and Josef Marha confused (thought the former played for ANA). Then I screwed up by picking Lupul for ANA/30+ goals... he topped out at 28, with the Ducks :pullhair:

I need to stop doing these right after midnight. I goofed on the Calgary+30 goal square and put in Gary Leeman. But Leeman potted 30 with Toronto before being traded to Calgary where he quickly fell off.

Should have done Jason Wiemer for CGY+NYI but wasn't 100% sure.

Soooo, the only thing that prevented me from a score of 3 was picking Andrei Nikolishin for COL/100 goals career, and he had.... *checks notes* ........... 93 career goals!!!! :madfire::cry:

One of the few times I got less than 10 uniqueness. Good thing after yesterdays shitty doku:laugh:
Only one of nine is not a former Av, and of course the one with the highest uniqueness:laugh:

Phew, I lucked out with the last square. Went for an obscure 100 goal scorer and figured Pandolfo would have eeked by given how long he played for. He ended up scoring exactly 100 goals.

Today I looked at stats starting to read players from 500 points up. And then named the first player I recalled playing for that team. So i got Mike Green for Wings, Brian Bradley for Lightning and Brad Boyes for Blues.

It is not (462 points). This game really didn't let me have any fun at all. I always love it when I misunderstand a category, and it takes 2 wrong answers to figure it out. Case in point:

[TBL/Stanley Cup Winner]: Mike Commodore ("that's odd... pretty sure he won with the Hurricanes...")

[STL/Stanley Cup Winner]: Bret Hedican ("Wtf! He definitely was on that team!! OHHHHHHH... -_-")

Pretty decent scores, except for jumping the gun on Sundqvist:facepalm:
Just like @kvladimir , I was unsure about the SC winner-category, but played it safe.

Oooof, this hurts real bad. VAN is the one team I should know best for this game, yet I got both X's on their squares!

For VAN/CAR, I took Mats Lindgren, thinking he was involved in the Langdon/Malik trade, but he was a FA signing (and formed one of the funniest line combinations ever - Linden-Lindgren-Langdon )

For VAN/300+ assists, I thought Marc Bergevin was an easy one, but somehow over a 20 year career, he only got 145 assists??? Wtf, man!

This one was obviously designed to be a huge challenge to even get each square correct, for the most part. Really exposed my lack of knowledge of award winners :baghead:

My miss in the middle was Howie Morenz - I figured picking a guy who played in the 20s/30s and scored at a massive rate would be a good pick because of how few games were played each season, and I knew Morenz's career ended early (died at age 34), but unfortunately, he actually played for 13 seasons and that got him to 550 games :pullhair:

Joe Malone was the guy!

Was surprised at the low number on Kreider, but even more surprised at Tavares, Tage, Connor, Zibanejad, Seguin, Kempe, Tarasenko, McCann, F. Forsberg, Duchene, Lindholm and Skinner being even lower! :amazed:

7/9 for me today. Tried up come up with a non-current player for the 40+ goals and under 500 GP square and incorrectly guessed Sergei Makarov. I didn't want to use Martin Brodeur for the 1st rounder + Vezina square and went with Roberto Luongo. I had assumed Luongo had a Vezina in the trophy case.

It's weird how few 1st round drafted goalies have won Vezinas, isn't it? Bobrovsky, Ullmark, Hellebucyk, Shesterkin, Rinne, Holtby, Lundqvist, Thomas, Miller, Kiprusoff, Theodore, Kolzig... not a 1st round pick to be seen!

Kolzig was a 1st rounder (I didn't know he won a Vezina until I saw the answers). Funny story about that draft was that the Washington drafted Kolzig 19th overall then took another goalie Byron Dafoe with the 35th pick. Caps head coach Bryan Murray loudly joked "What? Did we give up on the other guy already?" Kolzig and Dafoe ended up being the best man at their respective weddings (and also 'fought' in the NHL).

1st round goalies became an endangered species since the lockout. Goaltending inherently is a tougher position to scout and in some cases a guy isn't even his team's starter during his draft year. Pekka Rinne was in his 4th draft eligible year (would have been UFA by today's rules) and one story was that Nashville's scout liked Rinne from watching him in warmups. Guys like Steve Mason and Scott Wedgewood went from potential late round picks to 3rd rounders based on a handful of OHL playoff games.

With the UFA age dropping to 27, it's understandable if a team thinks it can get more bang for their buck with another position since even the best goalie prospects aren't challenging for the starter role until 4+ years down the line.

Without taking a current player like Kaprizov, the middle square had me completely stumped. I immediately thought of Rob Brown, Dan Marois, Stephane Lebeau, and Mats Naslund; but all four were slight misses for games played or goals. Loob came to mind, but I could have sworn that he played >500 games.

It was challenging, but I liked this one. Hopefully they do more clues like today's in the future.

Yesterday I thought there were so much less games in early days that Frank Brimsek didn't play 500 and I failed.

Another one I 100% would have had my best game ever if I hadn't flubbed one on the team I know best... thought Artem Chubarov both played more seasons and scored more points, apparently he only got 58! :whaaa?:

Also had Sergei Nemchinov and Dennis Pederson queued up for that one, and both would have been correct and a 0.0%! :banghead:

9/9 with 0 uniqueness!

I had six answers with 0.0% uniqueness!

Every player on the board played for TOR at some point except Bonino.

Incredible result! I got the first 8/9 right with a uniqueness of zero, but then got the last category wrong (top left). The frustrating part is I thought about someone who turned out to be a valid answer, but I wasn't sure, so I picked someone else. I'll keep trying for a sub-10 score.

Also, ewwww on those McCrae and Radivojevic scores... shouldn't be a surprise with all three of his former teams in this one
