Refs (again)

Folks bitch about the refs when they call too many penalties. Folks bitch about the refs when they don't call enough penalties. Hard truth is that folks just like to bitch about the refs no matter what they do.
Don’t read it wrong, the complaining tonight is still about calling too many penalties in games 1-3 because that was when the standard changed out of thin air. Tonight is the expectation based on precedent, far preferred, and just serves as more of an example of how games 1-3 made no sense

Aka we were allowed to do what we wanted for 3 series but not agaisnt Vegas. To me, it's clear the league has a bit of an agenda.
Maybe Florida just isn’t the powerhouse you dreamed they could be. They’ve met a powerhouse team that wasn’t decimated by injuries, and it’s going as it should.

I think Vegas is the better team but it does feel like the games have been called tighter in the finals compared to earlier rounds and that seemed to hurt Florida a lot because of their style of play and the way Vegas dominated the special teams battle early in the series.

They seemed to let them play more in game 4 and Vegas still won anyway. I do get the frustration with the inconsistency of the reffing from game to game or series to series but unfortunately it is part of the game. You have to overcome it.

Imagine that this same Florida team went just shy of 2 full NHL games without committing a single penalizable infraction earlier these playoffs and their fans have the gall to complain about the officiating.

Just incredibly rich.

Fois Gras isn't this rich!

Instead of just liking this, I'll say that I 100% agree, and then like this post.

And I wasn't aiming any shots at the Panther fans who by and large haven't been bitching about the refs. Predictably, the bitching is mostly coming from fans whose teams aren't even involved in the SCF but for perceived injustices in earlier rounds.

The Canes were decimated by injuries, but what other team did the Panthers play that fit that description?

IMHO, Vegas is a big physical team although they don't seem to play like it. When they do face a team that is trying to be physical, they positively get off on it like feeding raw sugar to toddlers. That is the one way to get the very best play out of the Knights. When Florida got away from trying to play physical, the sugar was taken away from the toddlers and Florida won game 3 and very nearly game 4. The point being that calling games tightly and preventing all the physical play favored the Panthers, even if that isn't what got them here. If anybody wanted more physical play, it was the Knights.

For the record, not griping about it but merely observing. Teams have to adjust to the refs, just like in any sport. That's just part of the game.

This game for sure. Refs are allowing Florida to play their dirty style game. But the refs have favoured Vegas for the rest of the series by cutting out Florida's dirty plays. That's what I mean. Florida should be called for their penalties but for 3 series they weren't. Just in this series they finally are.

The Bruins of course. Their top 2 Centers were hurt and their starting goalie, probably some other ones I forgot about.

I wouldn’t call the Canes a powerhouse.

Can't really comment as I haven't watched the finals but I know that the NHL is rigged for a long while. Can's wait until Gary Bettman is gone. If you attempt to fix the series in earlier series, you get the final like this. This is the exhibit "A," you do not attempt to fix series in from round 1 to Conference Final and you might get better finals with deserving teams in it.

This is basically the point of fair refereeing from preseason to postseason, all the way through and through. Preseason, you are basically trying to evaluate your players fairly trying to make the team and the better players might not make a final cut due to ref's mistakes and/or bias. In the regular season, you're trying to weed out teams without a few fixed games to the postseason where undeserving teams might squeak in with a point or two whiteout a fixed game earlier in the season. Finally, in the postseason you're trying to get the best teams possible meeting in the finals without trying to fix a series. You do not need a referee having a grudge against someone or calling a team tough because he's a hometown refereeing in any point of the season.

We aren’t losing from Reffing, we are banged up, out of gas, playing sloppy you name it.

However, the Reffing has been shit, and inconsistent maybe the worst ever in recent memory. The league seriously needs to figure out how they want the game ref’d because the wild inconsistency drives everyone bonkers.

Now it's suddenly a problem?

Before it was always "adjust how you play", "get used to it", "that's hockey".

Jesus, the narrative on these boards changes from year to year and team to team.

Fans should have been calling this out 15-20 years ago.

You forgot the "it evens out in the end".

Like it really seems to. Florida got away with a lot of shit in earlier series. Now it evens out. Well, that's just too bad. *sad face here*
