Why is your top pairing D rumored to be available? Because he isn't really a top pairing D?
money...Vatanen and Lindholm are getting huge raises this year and Fowler is the odd man out.
Also (and importantly) the Ducks are one of the very few teams in the league with the defensive depth to trade Fowler to fill other holes (specifically LW). It's a pure hockey trade.
Because we need a LW and we have too many defensemen.
Personally,I'd keep him. His contract is a bargain, but our financial situation being what it is, I'm sure the team is wondering if they can keep him in two years.

That was when there was no salary cap AND half of the team was built by Yzerman and Nill. He inhereted a lot of their work.

Ericsonn is signed until 2019 with a disgusting salary. Not to mention the fact that Staal is 10x better than him.
I'd love to, but I'm worried that Chia's move raised the cost on Fowler and Shattenkirk.

No, all the wingers are belong to us. We just signed Vanek and we have 2-3 winger prospects that are ready for opportunities. We are just collecting them at this point.

Get ready. The Vanek deal opens up a trade. I expect multiple pieces are moved for major upgrade on D.
I hope so, at this point AA is going to start the year in the AHL, that dude is ready for the NHL. Mantha is ready too. Way too many wingers...

We can solve that for you, just send AA or Mantha or Svechnikov to St. Louis for Shatty. Boom, now they are no longer stuck in the minors, problem solved.
I have a feeling if the wings land Shatty it will be either AA or Mantha. The Blues almost had Hall for him, which leads to a steep ask from everyone else.
I don't really want to trade either of them but at this point since we will never let them play, why not?
