This surprises me a little, I think Jurco will have a much better career. Pulkinnen will not make it in the League without his shot, and he has two big problems with it. The first is actually getting it off against quality defenseman, and the second is accuracy. As a Wings fan I would much rather give Jurco a legitimate chance on the 3rd line.
I mean I wouldn't mind. Tatar is the main ticket item I'm interested in. I'd prefer Nyquist if he was a left winger but he's not.
I'll be honest I didn't watch much of Jurco this year so those stats may not tell the whole story.
Put it this way. I'd take either deal if Fowler landed us Tatar. I'd prefer to go the route of trying to pry Landeskog from Colorado since it seems we 80% surely need to trade Fowler. Detroit seems like a far more logical choice. While Colorado is purely based on rumors of Landy's availability, there is a clear and obvious surplus of forwards in Detroit. Anaheim is in dire need of wingers, they have something of a blueline surplus (though Stoner and Bieksa are clogging up the pipes on guys like Theodore and Montour), and Fowler would probably love no destination more than Detroit who needs defense. It makes far too much sense.
Ultimately I would've preferred we trade Vatanen for some wing help instead of extending him (I think our defense hurts more without Fowler than Vatanen, we have Theodore who could mitigate some of the offensive loss), but here we are.
Both teams are in dire need of what the other has to offer. I'd think Shattenkirk is probably a better route to go, but he may cost more.
