For cozens

That's about as much as I'd go

Given the choice of copp/compher, rasmussen/veleno , kiiskinen/mazur I think the better options are ones I put on the deal

I'd hang to cozens if I were buffalo but if he shits the bed next season his value will be garbage. Dont think we'd be good trade partners and wouldnt expect a deal.

I'd also be shocked at this stage if a team would give up top assets for him.

Cozens for zegras would probably be the bet at this point for sabres

Instead of stat watching, I'll ask:

What does Cozens do well? Is he a high motor kind of guy? Just snake bitten this season? How's his skating? Can he PK?

Obviously a career high of 68 doesn't spark much joy against his cap hit.
High end motor good transition game plays way more effective when he keeps it simple this year he is playing uncoordinated with his line not reading off eachother well, overreactive to the developing play and just plain out of sync. Just unsure of what his teammates are going to do as they like to play with a high motor as well I would assign the whole second line as f1,f2, and f3 and tell them to stick to their respective roles until they can play on the fly and show they no where to be.

Maybe I’m just really sleepy, but that was difficult to read.

This is a misheard rumor. Detroit isn't in on Dylan Cozens, they're in on Dylan's cousins.

The big problem I see is Buffalo needs top6 F / Top4 D and Cozens is their best trade chip that won’t hurt to move. Problem is Cozens is paid like a top6 F but producing like a bottom6 one over the past two seasons and is trending downwards. His value is not going to get what Buffalo wants in a 1 for 1 deal. Buffalo would need to add something significant to get a better player as Cozens is closer to cap dump territory than trade centerpiece asset now.

The most likely scenario in a Cozens trade is either as a 1-for-1 for a lower paid but similarly underperforming former top pick (Rasmussen for example) to clear cap/salary to use in the offseason for a bigger fish like say a Marner. Or they will package him as a throw-in/cap dump for a big move for a player like EP or whomever the Rangers dump next. Thing is Cozens will be more of a salary matching throw in for those deals and not a value-added piece so it’ll be something like Byram/Power + top prospect + 1st + Cozens where he’s the salary throw in to make the cap work.

Either way Buffalo is probably best hanging onto him unless they feel he won’t bounce back. If they think that it’s best to dump him for whatever useful piece they can before the contract becomes an anchor. It’s very possible this is the motivation for Terry/Adams. They feel that 2 years ago was the aberration and that going forward the player he’s been last year and this is what he really is and trying to get rid of that contract now before other teams realize it is why they are motivated to move him. Sometimes the best trades aren’t what you get back, but what you got rid of before it’s too late.

A 23 year old forward who scored 30 already in his career isn’t going to be a cap dump. If no one is offering equal NHL value then we keep him, simple as that. There is zero reason to dump him for futures in order to overpay an older player until they’re well into their 30’s.

Unless you’re offering the likes of Larkin or Seider; the Sabres aren’t interested in anything you can possibly offer. We don’t want middling older players whom are what they are, draft picks or prospects to be waited for. Cozens May be a bit rough around the edges but I’ll keep him over taking Compher/Copp and some assortment of chaff from the Red Wings recycle bin.

Adams is probably just excited to talk to Yzerman. Texting him all the time and telling him about his new dog.

lol @ Seider or Larkin. For Cozens? You can’t be serious…

Most Wings fans don’t want him anyways. It’s all rumor

Buff isn't in the market for futures/prospects. Need NHL caliber players back. Don't see what Det can offer in that regard. Unless there is a 3rd team or one of the 2 clubs makes a second deal either prior (Det) or after (Buf) with the futures, there isn't a fit between the 2 clubs.

Remember when ppl were laughing bc Cozens had more value than Swayman.

as expected, this thread:

Cozens sucks so bad, he has low point totals and he is overpaid. He is a complete drag on the team and any of his linemates. What do you want for him?

Also:

"You have to pay a lot to get a young top 6 center, who hasn't produced like a Top 6 center since early 2023."

I don’t see it. Detroit won’t give up what Buffalo wants unless they are willing to be the next team fleeced in an Yzerman trade.
This post makes no sense.

I get that you are trying to say that the trade won't happen unless Buffalo is willing to be fleeced by Yzerman but the way you worded it is very confusing. It sounds like you are referring to Detroit as being the team that would be fleeced in an Yzerman trade.

I would also assert that the 'don't pick up the phone if Yzerman calls because you're gonna get dunked on' narrative doesn't really hold up because his trades largely haven't turned out all that great overall.

Nobody seems to be mentioning the elephant in the room here. There’s a reason Cozens is on the trade block. He has a $7.1 million long-term contract, he’s not living up to. Not even close to living up to, and he’s over 100+ games into NOT living up to it.

If you go back and watch his 31 goals from 2 years ago, he scored from everywhere. He’s either going through a massive head case regarding confidence in his shot, or maybe Hathaway really did ruin his career with that knockout punch. He’s not even attempting shots from these same areas.

Every team “in on Cozens” knows there’s a possibility THIS is Dylan Cozens. They’d only make the deal, hoping two years ago was the Cozens they’ll get, but there’s no guarantees at all. They’re taking a big chance themselves, and that’s just taking on that contract. Giving up Grade A pieces is an entirely different, added pressure.

So it’s still a scary deal to make for any manager, and we have to start questioning what type of offers the Sabres are getting. From what I understand, they are nothing like some people are speculating, and the ball really is in Buffalo’s court. Teams aren’t going to increase their offers.

Teams are wanting to buy low, giving Buffalo the opportunity to get out from under what’s on its way to being a monster anchor of a contract.

We get to this summer and nothing’s changed, what do people think the offers will be after he’s 160 games into not performing up to that contract?

So it’s up to the Sabres to decide. They’ll still get good value today, but everyday his play doesn’t change, those offers will be less and less.

It’s a tough situation for the Sabres, cause if they hold on too long for better offers, and this is what he is from now on, they really will have a massive problem on their hands.

Or, they can cash in their chips, get a couple decent pieces and move forward. The ball’s in their court. It’s up to them, but fans shouldn’t be surprised if the value isn’t what they were thinking it’s gonna be.

That was Cozens' D+3. This is Danielson's D+2.

In Cozens D+2 he was posting a whopping 13 points in 41 games in the NHL. Something Nate should definitely be jealous of, no doubt.

When you wanna stop telling lies to suit your narrative, join us in the adult conversation.
Come on. You just essentially compared Cozens' value with Compher's in your mockery proposal and continued the petty pissing match when everyone is already in agreement that there's no reasonable deal to be made here.
Maybe you're not the one who should use expressions like "adult conversation".

Last year he got injured and played most of the season injured

This year he has been snake bitten with many opportunities and been stopped. Thesr
E shots were in the high risk scoring area

The PP as a whole has been an issue on the team

People think they can get him st bottom barrel prices and that is not happening

This reaks of sales tactics, you're fabricating an urgency that doesn't exist.
Cozens is all of 23 years old and will almost certainly be a useful player in some capacity even if for some reason he didn't go back to being a good top 6 player.
Sabres have cap space and they can buy him out easily if they so choose. Plus, they don't need "value" through trades with all the assets they have.
What they do need are specific pieces to make the team better. Another team offers those pieces, Dylan should be available.
