Probably makes sense for both teams. What is it going to take?

Danielsson/Nygard + Wallinder/Tuomisto + 3rd?

I think the wings would prefer to hold onto Pellikka to fill for Petry or Holls spot.

Detroit is not trading ASP for Cozens lol.

I doubt they'd do Nygard either. Danielson is a slight possibility if they're really trying to push to compete. Cozens is only 3 years older.

Detroit gotta pay up you need to pay to get and Copp Compher isn't gonna cut it Buffalo should wait for the best offer.

I agree, I think Danielson should be the preference with Larkin/Cozens playing on the top 2 center spots, and maybe Kasper eventually taking Comphers 3rd line role. ASP is needed for their right side especially with his offense. Nygaard is also the physical scorer that they need to keep.

Cozens isnt a big upgrade over Copp or Compher, would be keeping status quo for the most part although he is young and can bounce back and still improve. I think Yzerman stays away unless Buffalo has their asking price lower than most expect.... I dont see any reason to gamble on a bounce back while tying up that much future cap space. Much rather find a stop gap 1 year option for this year, the bigger picture is more important than panicking over the Copp injury.

0.5 ppg, 3 more years after this at 7 million

Can any Sabres fans comment on the reason for the drop off in production?
Bad hockey IQ - decided to double down on his offensive game which is limited instead of focusing on his all around game and he is plummeting because of it. Believe he had a quote last year where he said “I want to score 40 this year instead of 30.” Should’ve sounded the alarms then as everyone knew we needed a 2 way C instead of a worse version of Tage.

This isn’t a Reinhart, Eichel or ROR situation where those guys are clearly good players.

You’re acquiring him to bounce back and hope he can find the potential he looked to have.

Point/game each season starting with his rookie year:

0.32, 0.48, 0.84, 0.59, 0.49

That 68 point season is really looking like an anomaly. Buyer beware.

Don't think Cozens is on the table with Jake Evans out there, now. Evans is the perfect replacement for Copp.

Not interested what so ever in that trade as a red wings fan. It’s 2 years of mediocre production for 7 million. I’m not giving up A+ prospects for a player/contract like that.

This is burned.

The trade was something around Cozens for Kasper and I don’t see the Wings moving him now after how he’s exploded under McLellan
I doubt we would have even given up kasper then. Our FO love him and have always loved him.

McLeod makes more sense.

The longer he goes unsigned for next year the higher the likelihood he could be traded.

It’s so very rare for guys with 7 years of term to be traded right now.

It is much more likely it’s the guy who just got there and needs a new deal.

I would be inclined to believe cozens was being shopped if McLeod were resigned. That has not happened yet. Until it does I think the trade target from Buffalo is McLeod. The pending decision is fairly high stakes. I’d keep it a surprise too.

Maybe but I’m not speculating. If the deal was going to happen, that was the requirement on the Sabres end.
I think the Sabres are better off just keeping him and hoping he can bounce back. Nobody is going to give up players like kasper for a guy who has underperformed 2 years now, doesn’t seem to play with great IQ, and makes 7 mill a year. Buffalo isn’t going to want to move him for what teams are willing to give up, and teams aren’t gonna trade what Buffalo wants for him.

With Husso gone (4.75m) and Copp out for the season (5.625m), the plot definitely thickens. Even if not for Cozens, I feel like it may be more likely than not that a move gets made.
