Friedman: Red Wings interested in Dylan Cozens

Instead of stat watching, I'll ask:

What does Cozens do well? Is he a high motor kind of guy? Just snake bitten this season? How's his skating? Can he PK?

Obviously a career high of 68 doesn't spark much joy against his cap hit.
When Cozens is on his game, he's Jeff Carter 2.0. Skates very well, has sandpaper to his game, can shoot incredibly well with some underrated vision, is good defensively and on the PK. And he's improving in the faceoff dot.

Problem is......he hasn't really been like that for 18 months now. He'll show it on some shifts and occasionally in some whole games.....but he truly just looks lost. Some on the Sabres board pinpoint a direct decision of his during the offseason after his breakout (as in Summer of 2023) to try to become a consistent 40+ goal scorer instead of becoming a more well-rounded player. Some speculate that this decision has stunted his growth as a player and ultimately slowed his overall development.

This would be a risky move for Detroit.

Cozens is working on his 3rd 40-50 point season. as opposed to 1 70 point season. He has a big cap hit and, from what i've read, better suited as a winger than a center (not sure if that last one is true?)

Cozens is working on his 3rd season of putting up 40 points. You don't think a modest projection for Danielson is a half point per game center?

And Danielson can't even do that at the same age Cozens was when he played his first full NHL season and put up 38 points. Sure that's not very impressive but Danielson can't even match that, he is a very milquetoast prospect who will be lucky to ever reach Cozens' career high.

That was Cozens' D+3. This is Danielson's D+2.

In Cozens D+2 he was posting a whopping 13 points in 41 games in the NHL. Something Nate should definitely be jealous of, no doubt.

Wow. You really don't like Danielson as a prospect.

It probably doesn't help that you are comparing apples and oranges though.

FYI: Cozens 38 point season was his D+3 year while Danielson is in his D+2 year.

The only way this works is if it's a buy low situation that Buffalo fans would hate. We have nothing on the roster that we would give up for Cozens that Buffalo would want, and Buffalo doesn't need any more futures.

These two teams make bad trade partners in terms of what the fans think. Let's see which GM infuriates his fanbase more if a move is made.

It's hard to believe that Terry makes all the moves; he doesn't interfere with his other team like that.

It's obvious that Adams is a bad GM here. I doubt Terry told him to keep Jokiharju and not look for a top 4 RD for Power, and before that for Dahlin. Zero sense.

He doesn’t interfere with the other teams because he’s less of a fanboy with them. It’s specifically his love of hockey that makes him such an atrocious NHL owner.

13 points in the NHL > 3 goals in the AHL. Danielson's just not a very good player, there's no lies there.

Well, it's his team too. I just don't understand how it works. What specific decisions does he make and what doesn't. I don't like Kevin Adams as a GM anyway because I think he's a bad GM. We already knew Terry was a bad owner. I think he's involved, he's interested in drafts and other aspects, but I don't think he makes trades or doesn't make them (maybe some because of money). Isn't the owner of Canes as meticulous as Terry? But they're making the playoffs just fine.
