There's a way around that one without killing him. Won't spoil it.

The game is amazing but there's a lot of little things that drive me crazy. Hunting, for example. Is there actually any purpose to it? It just seems like the amount you get for selling pelts is miniscule compared with the effort you have to put in. I clean killed a grizzly with a scoped rifle and only got about $5 for it.

There needs to be a better fast travel system. I unlocked the fast travel map in camp but it's not enough. It took legitimately half an hour to ride to where Flaco was, complete that quest and get back to civilization. No trains or stagecoaches around.

I'm also on chapter 3 and still haven't found a trapper. Also, what's the difference between stowing an animal you killed and skinning it right there?

I haven't had that much trouble with bounties. You need to just do your thing and get out quick, which can oftentimes mean you're leaving valuables behind. The second side business I robbed I learned my lesson from the first one. I put on the bandanna before walking in, went in late in the evening and got out of town fast. No bounty.
I could've spared him....it was just too risky!

I've noticed as long as you dont get involved with law enforcement at all, then the wanted level goes down. So don't commit crimes in populated towns. If the law sees you, then you'll have a bounty. Kill witnesses too.

I also just read on Reddit if you surrender yourself to the sheriff he'll take whatever money you have on you and waive the remainder of the bounty.

I try not to get involved with the law but some missions you can't help but cause a scene which brings the law in. I also hate it when you're riding around and you hear someone call out for help, you go over to help and next thing you know you're being shot at and someone sees you to tell the law. I don't go around picking fights are shooting people all over town either to get such high bounties. I remember one time I went to the saloon to get a drink and I thought I hit LT to talk to the bartender but didn't and ended up punching someone which led to a huge fight and being wanted, so dumb.

That would be ok early in the game but later on when I have a good amount of cash I don't want to do that. Maybe in West Elizabeth where you start with like a $220 bounty. I might try it there after I use all my cash to upgrade things to see if that works then get arrested in all the town's I have a bounty. Do you spend long in jail or just a night?

The horses do upgrade by riding them but you can buy saddles and stirrups that improve their stamina and health which allows you to ride fast longer.

To avoid bounties I keep things short. If I rob a train I only hit a few people and then take off before police arrive. If you get away quick enough you won’t get a bounty. The bandanna helps a bit but I think just leaving before you get too greed works best.

I haven't looked into buying a new saddle or stirrups since I've been spending my money upgrading the camp. I guess ill look for a stable to do that.

I'm trying to play honorable so I only end up killing when on a mission or when I get attacked just traveling around and have to defend myself. I think the issue is I linger too long looting people which gets my bounty up but I need that $3.20 and canned vegetables.

The bounties suck. Early on I could afford to pay $25 to pay it off easily and now they're over $200. Wouldn't be that bad if I didn't have to share my take with the gang. I don't have the money to pay them off so I have to loot bodies which just kills your honor. Hunting doesn't seem to be making me much money either with selling of pelts, gambling doesn't win you enough so I'm stuck avoiding half the map.

I bought a camp boat and picked up some better bait. My day now consists of me waking up, shaving, putting pomade on my hair I got cut (easier than putting on new hats every other minute), killing an animal to donate to camp, fishing all day and finishing up with a bath while flirting with the girls in the bathhouse.

i had the same issue, but then i kill flacco hernandez and got a treasure map. At the end of the treasure hunt i got 4 gold bars $500 each i have money to burn now.

Note i had to look online how to follow the treasure map so it could be seen as cheating but if i didnt there was now way id find the gold, it doesnt bother me but i could see other people not liking doing it that way. I will say though a wanted bounty ruins the free roaming of that area though

Lol yeah I’ve been playing more honorable of late. Just much less hassle. I always loot people because it adds up over time, especially if they have a wedding ring or pocket watch or something. It’s gotten me in trouble a time or two too lol.

Well I spent a good portion of my morning playing this. I’ve been able to commit crimes and get out without a bounty. The system takes some getting used to and I still think it should reset when killed by hunters, but it’s not so bad.

Couple of missions into chapter 3. I find myself actually caring about the story which is highly unusual for me.

I’ve spent quite a bit of money upgrading my horse and it’s been worth it. Much easier to get away from trouble. I still need to just buy a better horse though. I’m still using the one I bought early on in Valentine. I just don’t want to waste money upgrading the saddle and stirrups again.

Sitting on about $800 which is the richest I’ve been but I’ve spent a ton on bounties early on.

What is the benefit of donating to the camp? Every time I return they’re low on everything but I haven’t really cared because I haven’t seen how it affects me if it does.

Also super annoying to get through a tough battle and get a huge score only to walk away with like 10% of the money. It’s rough but I’m getting more and more money as I go. Haven’t seen the need to buy a new weapon either as you get a few free ones along the way that are plenty sufficient.

apparently at some point one of the camp upgrades is a fast travel point, which would be sweet because it can take forever to get back to that camp its not super close to a train station.

i had to kill about a half dozen witnesses today,
i killed a guy a witness saw
i chased him down a witness saw
and so on and so on

i had to start running all the bodies off into the woods in case more witnesses came, just to end the cycle

Upgrade Dutch's tent then upgrade Arthur's tent and you get the fast travel map on Arthur's tent. It doesn't let you fast travel back to camp though so it's a one way departure. It also doesn't actually show you where it's taking you on the map so you have to be familiar with the town names and locations.

What do you mean that it doesn't show you where its taking you on the map?

So you just select the fast travel map and it randomly puts you somewhere on the map?

It just gives you a list of towns, you don't actually use the map. So it becomes a two step process where you need to look at your map, find the town nearest to where you want to go then go into the map on Arthur's tent and pick the town.

Oh. Ok, thanks.

If someone finds a body and you aren't around, you won't get a bounty since they won't know who did it.

Well I was there trying to get that sweet sweet 39c in loot. I got wanted without being seen one time as well, may have been a glitch but I was behind a hill and wanted “Arthur Morgan” came up on the screen

Does anyone know how to lose a 'Wanted Dead or Alive' status? for the area around Blackwater specifically. There's patrols on the border looking for me and when I went to do I mission I managed to sneak in but ended up getting spotted eventually and I had about 10 lawmen on my back and they destroyed me.

I think that particular area is permanent because I have a feeling its going to be really important for the story, kind of a natural way of locking an area off

I don't think there is a way with Blackwater. They make a pretty big deal about how wanted the group is in Blackwater and how quickly they had to flee. I haven't tried to do a mission in there yet, but I don't think there's a way to pay your way out of it.

I did the treasure hunt that you get as a result of killing one of the legendary gunslingers and got $2,000 worth of gold for it. Definitely worth the 10 minutes of trouble. I've used most of the money to upgrade my camp. I still haven't seen a tremendous benefit to doing this other than the fast travel map. That's pretty nice, but other than that I haven't seen the increased morale actually do anything.

I'm at work today and all I want to do is play this game. I'm about 30% done with the story missions, but I keep getting distracted and doing these weird side quests. The side quests have some really funny and interesting story lines. Definitely worth checking out, though the reward for some of them is pretty lackluster.

I haven't done a main story mission in about a full day of playing, I really just want to accrue as many $ as possible because the game is really hard when you are wanted. I got the 4 gold bars now so ill start doing main missions again. Apparently there are at least another 2-3 gold bar treasure quests out there. one you have to buy a map off a guy in the wilderness (not sure where) or you can rob him too I guess

I'm trying to avoid this thread to avoid spoilers, but man I really love this game! I'm petitioning my girlfriend to buy me a cowboy hat for my birthday later this week, but I don't think it's working...

I've played through only a handful of story missions, and most of my gameplay has been hunting legendary animals as well as doing "stranger" missions, and just various exploring. They billed this game as a 60 hour game. I could spend 60 hours total just putting together customized outfits once I start acquiring more pelts... I'll be shocked if I spend less than 150 hours on the single player game alone. When you get into the Online play... holy wow.

I hope the online is good, but I don't have much hope for it being any different than GTA online, which I didn't enjoy once the heists were completed. It just became a grief-fest.
