You must be very desperate, just change your username to LukeHughesFanboy or similar. But it's getting increasingly annoying that there are at least 10 trolls like you in this thread. The trolls desperately need to mention at any Nemec milestone that how amazing Luke Hughes is....

Brag about playing third pair and getting sheltered minutes in the Luke Hughes thread. But this thread is about Simon Nemec.

So you trolls, if Nemec scores a goal or something, you don't have to keep commenting on how amazing Luke Hughes is, because Luke Hughes has nothing to do with it.

A) because they don't play together B) the comparison is completely pointless as they are two different players. One is a complete package, plays in all situations, the other is an offensive D

your hughes take is awful: don't be shocked ppl are responding to it

i love the "everyone is a troll" bit, too. pure gold

It's also just poor silliness to go after Luke on top of being wildly off topic.

Kid is tied for 2nd in rookie scoring. His metrics are fantastic. He's a stud. End of story.

Going back on topic, so is Nemec. Kid has ice water in his veins, super calm and composed.

Most of the defensive issues I've seen from him so far are just timing/awareness related due to having a whole new set of team mates. Generally he seems to be taking care of his own assignments pretty well. As he gets more comfortable with his new partner, I'm confident those wrinkles get smoothed out pretty quickly.

Nemec has been fantastic, such a calming presence out there. He and Luke could be incredible together in the future:

Hughes - Nemec
Bahl - Marino
Siegenthaler - Hamilton/Casey

The team has looked so much better without Hamilton lol.

Agreed, I would try to move him sooner if possible.

Didn't even have to see the username to know who this post was from.

I don't see Hamilton on the team beyond 24-25. His NMC moves to a modified 10 team at that point I think, and by that point they may want to re-allocate that cap hit and re-diversify the talent.

Not sure I agree, I think Dougie is still on this roster but also depends how he ages and comes back from this pectoral

At some point, I think that money is just better spent elsewhere if he's not a great defender and not getting PP1 time (Luke already has taken that) and Simon will have a good bit of experience under his belt, including running pp2.

If the devils are still one of the top scoring teams in the league without him while he's out, i think real consideration has to be given to re-allocating those assets.

Let’s pump the brakes on Casey here

He’s likely still two years away at minimum

That’s just because of the other guys. He’d be able to play next year (or even this year after his season ends) and not look out of place.

Casey might make Dougie both redundant and too expensive to be in a smaller role, but Casey will need more time before that happens.
The thing is I’m not sure this is that much about Casey. He might very well be too expensive for his role before Casey even gets here. If Nemec takes over as RD1 and you have both him and Hughes running the powerplay. How much value does Dougie have? Probably no where near 9M. At that point you might be better off getting rid of him and using that money elsewhere.

Played 22:22 against bruins, led all NJ players in ice time. Another good game, not flashy but he’s been making effective plays. Him and Hughes didn’t get as many shifts together this game but hopefully will soon against weaker opponents. Exciting combo to watch
He’s so effective and poised. I would’ve loved him to start the season with the team, but now is better than later. He’s looked awesome. He looks like a veteran out there.

Him and Hughes only get shifts together (outside in the middle of change situations) when they are down multiple goals late. So hopefully we won’t see that.

Think they should go to it occasionally earlier than that. Siegs has been rocky of late so getting Luke another 2 minutes of ice time at Sieg's expense would be a net win for the team.

I'm not an NHL coach though.

He’s so good for a 19 year old. Reminds me of a bigger, more talented Brian Rafalski in his poise, awareness and steady skating. His on ice iq is top notch even though he does make the risky play at times but that’s going to happen when you’re young.

He had another steady game. Aside from getting walked by Pastrnak late in the 2nd lol.

I know I'm a verified Dougie hater, but we are so much better with Nemec in the lineup.
Be even better with both in the lineup, though. Don’t care how much you hate Dougie, he’s better than Colin Miller

First half of the game was great. Second wasn’t as good but still solid.

Thing about the Pastrnak play is he still recovered and got a stick on it. Vitek never even had to make a save and wouldn’t have if he had.

We've been asking Luke to do way too much heavy lifting on his defense pairs. First he's saddled with Brendan Smith, then Colin Miller (better than Smith but still our worse dman on the roster last night). Now with Siegs struggling a bit, I don't want to do that to Nemec.

Maybe Luke - Nemec should be tried sooner than later. I know they are both rookies but they are arguably our best dmen already.

Hughes - Nemec
Bahl - Marino
Siegs - Miller

He is when he's focused & motivated, for sure. It's so nice to have that big shot. But the number (and timing) of weak plays and brain farts this year has been pretty awful, even for him. His play made it seem like he was pouting over losing his spot on PP1, thought that's obviously speculative.

He did get dangled, but he recovered and knocked the chance off Pasta’s stick as he tried to tuck it around Vitek so I’d say he recovered nicely.
