We've been asking Luke to do way too much heavy lifting on his defense pairs. First he's saddled with Brendan Smith, then Colin Miller (better than Smith but still our worse dman on the roster last night). Now with Siegs struggling a bit, I don't want to do that to Nemec.

Maybe Luke - Nemec should be tried sooner than later. I know they are both rookies but they are arguably our best dmen already.

Hughes - Nemec
Bahl - Marino
Siegs - Miller
I don't think it's necessarily obvious Miller was the worst defender last night. Maybe your eye test says that but he looked ok to me and while advanced stats aren't everything the XG% for Nemec and Siege at 5 x 5 SVA was abysmal even though to my eyes Nemec looked pretty good overall. I thought Marino looked shaky in his decision making at times as well. Compared to Smith, I think Miller has looked much better overall. I don't expect him to be better than Luke or Nemec or Marino but there is no reason he can't play on a level reasonably similar to Siegs and Bahl. Hamilton as you've noted is a whole different issue but the team likely won't cross that bridge until next season.

Miller was fine last night, I meant in a more general sense. And he's definitely been an upgrade on Smith.

I was shocked that Nemec's advanced stats were so bad for last night. He looked fine with a couple of exceptions. He's been a breath of fresh air since being called up.

Reactions are strange.

yeah, Nemec played greatly, covered every mistake Siegenthaler did. This is a huge example where eye test is telling much more than stats, because first pair was used in defensive role. He didn’t change his game after oilers game where he was one of the best too, and has 66+ xGF - best in that game. And he saved Devils in situation with Pasta.

For now he has more TOI 5 on 5 per game than any other devils defenseman. And Devils fans are happy how greatly he is playing on both ends of the ice and how positive his impact is. It’s not the story of bright future - he is already good nhler for different tasks.

I wish some one will make highlights of his game. I would, but this season I’m very busy on the work for it.

Saw this guy against Ducks for first time, don't know what are Dev fans talking about, but he's been BRUTAL. He reminds me of 2020 Quinn Hughes without offensive ability, looks like iq issue. He is good skater, but that's about it, he is nothing fancy, no wow effect in his game. He is just tier below Jiricek who just brings more to ice in his limited minutes and who is showing higher iq and gamebreaking abilities, while being picked later. He should have been in Utica improving his defensive game, he is not ready.

If that were true you would know the entire devils team played a nasty game tonight and lost to an AHL team. Based on that game no one was NHL ready

Yeah, He definitely has a gamebreaking ability:laugh:

Meanwhile The Jackets are 2nd last in the conference

Perhaps you meant that Jiricek is so bad that he "gamebreaks" the game for the opposing team?

Read my post again, seems like you have problem understanding, or are you just trolling?

Ah the "I don't understand English well and don't understand" trope mixed in with asking if you are trolling.

If you really don't think Jiricek has a "gamebreaking" ability then you should go and edit your post.

Best defenseman of the draft and it is not even close.

Saw Jiricek against Devils for not the first time, dont know what are jackets fans talking about him and Nemec. Nemec played 20+ min and was dominant, other one was sheltered 14 min third pair bunny.

Even in a bad game in back to back with washed up goalie Nemec was good, has 68% xGF and played 23 minutes. Wake me up when it will be Jiricek worst game. Second half of the post was a great fairy tale. Sleep well.

Jiricek vs Nemec - d**k measuring contest between the fans for years to come... It's such a stupid debate but at the same time I love to see it.

Team Jiricek here :naughty:...I dig his potential to dominate the O-zone and transition (which he might very well not hit) over Nemec's already polished and "mature" two-way play.

ok

lmao what is this card did you make it yourself?

You’ve been hating on Nemec for quite some time. Of course you are entitled to your opinion but you do realize that despite all your Nemec hate and Jiricek love nothing you say or do impacts either player? Maybe not since you are belligerent and irrational about it. I’m skeptical your first viewing of Nemec was against Anaheim given your avatar picture. You just waited for a night you could justify to yourself an overreaction. If Nemec has success that doesn’t mean Jiricek isn’t also a good player. Your posts come across like it’s a zero sum game.
