I can't believe people take these statistical portraits from two games seriously. He might be better than Luke Hughes but this is not how you figure that out.

From two games just roll the tape. We can watch all his key plays and mistakes in two minutes.

Nemec is much better defensively than L.Hughes. He received by far more PK time and difficult matchup in just one NHL game than L.Hughes in his entire NHL career.

They are two different players. Nemec is a two-way D, L.Hughes is a one-dimensional offensive D. So it's completely pointless to compare them.

Both look great at such a young age. Both have made similar kind of rookie mistakes, and are obviously dynamic offensively. I think Nemec is the better passer, and is for sure calmer out there, scanning to see where he can make a play & Luke is more offensively electric, with the unique edge work and attacking style.

Luke will probably get more points w/ the pp1 setup and natural chem with Jack. But wouldn't be surprised if Nemec is more of a 5 on 5 producer.

Luke Hughes development or skill level doesn’t hurt Nemec, in fact it helps him. There maybe is a potential pairing of Nemec-Hughes in the future, we have already seen some of it in these 2 games (mostly in the first game).

Hughes becoming a stud doesn’t mean Nemec will be given no ice time or something. Nemec will probably lead NJ in ice time when they are both in their prime with Nemec being PP2 and PK1. Hughes will score more, and that’s okay for Slovak hockey lol.

Please tell me the new Slovak homer move isn't going to be mowing down Luke Hughes to try and prop up Nemec. Just let the kids play hockey.

Are Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec gonna be the younger version of what we are seeing with stud duo Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek?

Now this would be a massive disappointment for Slovak hockey, if Nemec only became Hronek. This must be some underhand sick Czech joke

One dimensional is the exact opposite way I’d describe Luke Hughes so far in his career. I thought it was likely that’s how he’d look early in his career, but it hasn’t been the case. He is good all around.

Luke Hughes isn't Sanderson, Edvinsson, Simashev, Nemec or Faber as defensive defenseman but he is really good, he can catch player on the fly, has a good back check, he is playing stronger positionally. He will not be Devils pk1 player, but O will not be surprise if he will play toughest minutes in the end of the games in the near future. Ofcoyrse as partner for Nemec.
Nemec may be even better playmaker and passer, but looks still great, he makes good long first passes and he is a rover with the puck.
Both are very good on the both ends already. Both looks like the perfect players to be picked where they were picked. Both looks like a perfect material to compliment each other in the Norris race in future.

Devils starting in offensive zone much more than in D zone. Luke isn't playing with Smith anymore, it was a gig from the start when Miller was injured. Smith was bad not Luke, and eyetest and advanced stat prove it.
Everything you try to do is finding specific material to prove your opinion. The problem is you are not watching games and don't know what are you talking about.
Anyway Devils fans are very happy with both. As future core players to fight for Stanley Cup, as actual defensemen, as potential Calder candidates, as future Norris candidates. If Nemec is better as defensive defenseman, it doesn't make Luke wirser defensively and doesn't put shadow on his two way game and the level of talent.

If you want to argue, you can compare players with very good but lower potential like Hutson or Jiricek. There are much more issues and weaknesses. And its much more controversial. Luke and Nemec both very good defensively, offensively, have very good skating, its just Nemec who is smarter and Luke who is much more genetic freak and talented as anyone.

As @Guadana said if you aren't watching the games you aren't getting the full picture. Luke has played against plenty of the other team's better players and he's looked much better with Miller than Smith regardless of a few more zone starts one way or the other. I'm not suggesting he's Rod Langway but he's improved as the season has gone on and his overall two way play has been better with Miller than with Smith. Some of it is probably just playing on the left side instead his off hand.

The kid is good... and is going to be great. I am truly shocked at his usage. A lot of Devils fans were skeptical that they were actually going to bring him up... and even if they did I thought they would shelter him. Nemec himself said after the game last night he didn't expect to be given the minutes he's gotten.

Right now playing like a top 2 D, no chance they send him back down. I can't believe how composed he looks out there, like a 10 year vet. We are so lucky to have both Luke and Simon for years to come. Let's hope Casey keeps developing nicely as well and form a great trio!
