Maybe he can figure out how to play defense and stop with stupid passes.

He’s never living on up to the pick position.

This guy seems pretty high on him

Anyone know how he compares to let's say a player like Drysdale? If both Drysdale & Nemec was in this draft who would of been picked first?

Dougie Hamilton hasn't even turned 29 yet.

In addition to Luke Hughes, there is also Ty Smith.

I don't understand why some think the Devils are going to go Nemec in 2.

A power left forward like Slafkovsky is sorely missed by the team.

New Jersey doesn't need a No. 1 defenseman. Luke Hughes will be that guy for the next 15 years. It takes a potential top 4 right-handed defenseman. Player that New Jersey can get early in the 2nd round by targeting Christian Kyrou, Mathias Havelid, Seamus Casey or Ryan Chesley.
Nice !
Well we did end up gettig one of who you listed. I would have preferred Chesley but I am fine with Casey.
I somewhat agree with what you said predraft where maybe the Devils don’t “need” a top pair guy potentialy in Nemec / Jiricek as we have Luke and Hamilton as the top pair amd Severson on the second pairing. I,think we need more of a stay at home defensive amd physical D but it looks like we have that in Seigenthaler Mukhamadoulin Okhotiuk Bahl and Barabosha
Id say that it’s looking pretty good on D for us soon.

Habs ruined the Devils day. They needed Slaf way more than Nemec. With that said, Nemec an ok choice with Slaf off the board, but I think they would have been better off trading down and taking someone like Gauthier, Kemell, maybe Lekker.... and adding the extra assets.

They might have been able to get like Kemell AND someone like Chesley, which I think would have been better for the Devils needs than just adding Nemec.

But if he turns out to be as good as he can be, guess can't complain too much.

There's no way they would have passed on Slaf though if Habs went a different direction.

No one has traded out of the top-2 in decades. A trade down from 2 would only make sense if NJ drops no further than ~6, otherwise they're leaving way too much quality on the board. And obviously there's only so many teams they can negotiate with in that case.

The best move was to trust their board and take the guy they like. They almost certainly had Slaf #1 on their board but the whole point of the draft process is to prepare for every contingency. Getting the best D in the draft is far from a consolation.

I wanted Slaf too but people are underestimating NJ’s wing depth in the prospect pool. No one that has Slaf’s size but there’s plenty of top 6 potential in Holtz and Gritsyuk.

We have a potentially great defense for the future. Size and skill.

Not sure why some Devils fans are being so dramatic right now.

I wanted Slaf badly, but Nemec had a amazing season better than Clarke that people insisted was better than Luke Hughes. Of course, there's a lot to work but if he turns out good, watch out. Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec could be our Makar/Byram.

This guy must have a very bad memory, don’t need to go further than 2019.

I like Nemec a lot and picking him 2nd was totally fine.

BUT, there’s one big flaw in models like Byron’s that applies here: Only because Nemec has done something that’s never been done before, it isn’t automatically impressive. Nemec is better than any D ever in the Slovak league, but part of the reason why is that the Slovak league hasn’t produced a ton of high-end prospects. There simply isn’t enough data to hype Nemec to the moon after a very good season in the Slovak league.

Again, I like Nemec a lot and don’t mind the pick. But Byron’s model doesn’t mean much here.

Small sample size but 6 pts in 8 WC games without pp1 time is pretty good

I totally get that. I posted that mostly to show that disparity in people’s opinions. There are people with real data that love Nemec and people with real data that aren’t huge fans.

Ultimately, I think it’s way too early to love/hate this pick. His D+1 season is going to reveal a lot if he’s in North America.

I like this pick more than I did on draft day, and I loved it when it happened. Great tools, high floor, poised.
