I always admire his stretch passes. Dude can go tape to tape from his goal line to a forward at the offensive Blue line if you give him any opening

Currently had 8 points in 8 games for GR. Can’t imagine he’s in the A much longer.

Stevie Y going to develop him proper. Wings have depth on defence for now. Wait until an injury happens I imagine. That consistency looking flawless though.

Sounds like someone who hasn’t watched the Wings defensive depth much

Depth that bleeds chances against? Yeah no if Edvinsson is ready he should be called up after our first injury on the blue line. I doubt he’ll go back down after that but we’ll have to see.

I don't understand the need to rush him into the NHL as it's only been 8 games in NA. In the AHL he looks steady on D and transition in addition to his point totals but why not keep him there and then play the WJC and be the #1D?

After the WJC, let him catch his stride again in the AHL and see if he hits the ground running. If so, call him up and evaluate him. If not, let him play down in GR and gain confidence and eat minutes.

Seider was 20 when he debuted. Edvinsson was always raw and doesn't need to be rushed as a full time NHLer at 19... At least not on this tire fire defense and likely non-playoff team.

Because the Wings' 3rd pairing is a radioactive dumpster fire.

Call up Ed. Stick him with Mo. Let Chia and whoever play on the 3rd. Our 2nd pairing has been fire (the good kind) all season. The AHL is not the place to fine tune anyone, let alone an NHL ready defenseman. The AHL is for knocking rust off after injuries or getting reps against men if you're coming out of juniors. Simon has played in a men's league for 2 years now.

I'm not sure what one would be trying to accomplish developmentally by thrusting Edvinsson into the Wings lineup right now, especially when the Wings 3rd pairing is playing like ass and is far out of his control. Chemistry goes far deeper than just throwing a 19 y/o player on a pairing with a somewhat off sophomore in Mo. That makes no sense from a developmental standpoint of Ed. It's been a month from training camp and he's played 8 games in North America. Let's pump the brakes on the kid and let him dominate down there. And to my next point...

I disagree with your AHL comment regarding development. You understand that having the farm roster locally can allow Detroit to monitor the player and make evaluations far more closely and adequately than one overseas, correct? They're not just playing him there for funzies while overpaid bums waste minutes in Detroit. I actually trust Wings management and coaching staff a lot these days, unlike a lot of other franchises that are far more enriched in talent.

The pace of play and decision making will (obviously) vastly change when he plays in the NHL. Do you want him to develop and be a shut down #2/3 defensive D, or a #1 all-situations beast? Cause that was his draft day potential and though at this point he's right on track, don't be silly and jerk him up and down from minors to NHL and back down if he struggles, which, I'd be willing to bet right now he would. Give him some time. That's just how I see it.

Jerking no one around. He never should have been down there in the first place. Growing in the NHL as a teenager with the best coaches and players to learn from right there with him certainly crippled Hedman's development...

Well as opposed to 12 years ago, the top NHL draft picks are taking a bit more time to adjust to NHL play. It took Hedman a bit to catch his #2 OA stride, but I'd rather play it just a bit safer and have Ed up closer to February. I don't think that's unreasonable. He won't move the needle much on this team IMO.

Neither is playing him when he's more than capable and better than players currently playing. I don't get this safer thing. Nothing is safer than developing with the best coaching on a bench with the best players. I'd much rather have his day to day interaction be with the Wings' staff and teammates than Ben Simon and Brian Lashoff.

What in tarnation. Lindstrom and Hagg are awful. Maatta has points but has been overall bad. Chairot is dragging Seider down like an anchor. Last year Seider wouldn't trust his AHL linemates and wouldn't give them the puck, this year he (unfortunately) trusts chairot which is an overall negative.

Maatta has been very good. His pairing with Hronek is quite clearly the strongest we have currently defensively. I agree with the chemistry issues with Chia and Mo, but that's not because Chia (or Mo) are playing poorly. They just don't fit together stylistically. But yes, we only have 4 competent NHL defensemen right now.

Maatta has been great. I also disagree with blaming all of Seider's struggles on Chiarot. He hasn't looked at as good as last year even in situations where Chiarot is not on the ice (PP for example) so that argument just falls flat.

As for Edvinsson, he's doing well in the AHL but he's not only there to put up offensive numbers. I guarantee the Wings are looking more closely at his defense and puck management. I think he'll stay there for a while, there's no rush to call him up.
