Should Detroit play Edvinsson and Seider together, or are they better off splitting them up? Detroit doesn't have a RHD outside of Seider that's really a good fit so if you're not going to play them together Detroit will need to find a FA RHD or play William Wallinder on his off side.

I dont know how anyone can really answer this without seeing them on the same ice together even a little bit. I could see both things being true. Seider and Edvinsson could be the NHLs Weber Suter for the next decade playing half the game or they could be split up because they have literally 0 chemistry.

The shit talking about Hronek is pretty pathetic though. Hes 24, has handled top pairing minutes for a couple years and has always pacedfor 40 points. But hes not a good enough partner for Edvinsson on the 2nd pair in 2 or 3 years in the prime of his career? Really dumb take

Wait all of a sudden people think Hronek is atrocious defensively? Have they seen DDK play this year?

Look Hronek is never going to be a dominant defender but he's certainly serviceable and paces very consistently around .5 PPG. He's a solid top 4 guy and can play well off a more skilled player. Ed will be fine with him or Lindstrom, I don't expect him to need a lot of hand holding in the NHL, especially with how deep we are at RD.

It happens a lot on the wings board this year and has spilled over into this thread a bit. You said Hronek would have to be baby sat by Edvinsson which isnt the case. If youre as good as some people make Edvinsson out to be (myself included), Hronek is more than good enough to play with on a 2nd pair and not be an issue for your play

They should just get hometown boy Jeff Petry to mentor him. Leddy-Seider and Edvinsson-Petry is a solid top 4. Then Hronek on a third pairing is valuable.

Leddy is horrible and has no business being in the top 4, unless out of desperation.

Babysat as in Hronek likes to rush the puck up himself or join the rush, thus Edvinsson would have to sit back more than he would otherwise. It's not a negative shot at Hronek, it was a comment on the style of his play and how it would affect Edvinsson.

Dahlin is one of the best passers in the NHL and the most skillful defenceman I have ever seen at 18,19,20 years old. Edvinsson doesn’t have nearly Dahlins offensive toolbox. I think they are similarly good defensively.

I guess I am also higher on Dahlin than most though, I think he is the second best asset any team can have in the NHL, after McDavid. But comparing Edvinsson to Dahlin is overhyping Edvinsson, although I really like Edvinsson. Edvinsson is in a tier below but obviously a super high end player.
Dahlin has been atrocious defensively every year I’ve watched him play in the NHL. Amazing offensive talent for a defenseman, but not a good defender from what I’ve seen.

My opinion is that Dahlin is a good, solid defensive player. And overall obviously a much bigger talent than Edvinsson.

Dahlin is looking great this season and his defensive game is looking good, but this hasn't happened in previous seasons, he is still 21 years old and continues to improve every day.

Your opinion is wrong, he has not been good defensively his whole career.

His "whole career" lol. He's 21 years old and still gets better on both sides of the ice every game.

And don't pretend you watch Sabres games with any amount of regularity, no one outside of their most ardent fans do. They literally aren't able to give away tickets.

You learn something new every day, folks.
Hot take: I think the biggest developmental hurdle for Edvinsson will be giving up the aggressive offensive defensemen he thinks he is for the two-way shutdown defenseman he is ultimately going to become. He's an excellent puckmover with great stickhandling and high end skating, but man is he not nearly as dangerous in the offensive zone as he thinks he is.

Part of the reason I really want Edvinsson to come over and play in the AHL is so they can coach him to simplify his game a bit. He really needs someone to work with him and nail down his role, because in the SHL they just kinda let him do whatever strikes his fancy.
