From Hockey Sense with Chris Peters:
Detroit Red Wings - Moritz Seider, D, Rogle (SHL)
The way he has played this year, I really feel that there’s a good case for Seider being the best player outside of the NHL currently. Seider leads all U20 players in the SHL with 26 points. That puts him just five points behind Nils Lundkvist’s record for points by a U20 defenseman in SHL history, set last season. Seider, however, has a higher points-per-game rate at 0.72.

He is 10th in scoring by defensemen in the league and sixth in points per game for a defenseman. On top of that, Seider has showcased elite defensive abilities thanks to his mobility, range and smarts. On top of that, he’s been absolutely dropping players, hardening his physical edge and showing that he will be a force in all zones. There just aren’t any noticeable weaknesses in his game. Maybe he’s not a naturally dynamic offensively, but he’s effective. His range is incredible and he moves pucks with such maturity and confidence. I can’t see any situation where he’s not on Detroit’s opening-night roster in 2021-22 and playing top four minutes in short order.

I am so looking foreward to seeing Moritz in the NHL.

Third year in a row he shows in a mans league that he ist competitive if not even elite.
Even the doubts about his offensive potential have finally gone away. I pesonally never understood them anyway.

Personally I'd like him to dominate the KHL and Liiga for a total of FIVE men's leagues dominated before entering the NHL. After all, Detroit likes to marinate their beef streaks I've heard, or something...

I'd say let him play the SHL playoffs and then rest up a bit so he's ready for the IIHF WC without a jetlag :naughty:

When people say they'll think he'll be "underrated" offensively, what kind of production do you see?

very high hockey iq . very good hands , reach , composure . the kind of dman that can hold onto the puck and make excellent plays to set up talented forwards . the kind of dman that will set up house on the powerplay and distribute chance after chance to his teammates . shall have very high assist numbers if playing with talented teammates , with sufficient goal numbers (say 10) . while being a great dman when opponant has puck ...

Get him here now, so we can see him in some games. He’d make for a reason to watch the Wings.

i forgot to mention thats my floor for seider , i dont doubt as he attains full adult strength his wrist shot becomes great and he gets up near 20 goals . the guy is a very rare elite level hockey player thats trending elite star right now . first season in ahl watching him my thought was larry robinson . yes not as fine of a skater and shooter as robinson , but hes that elite combo of size , smarts , hands , ruggedness while still being a good not great skater

I think somewhere along the lines of McAvoy would be realistic. 35-45ish point pace over 82 games while being really solid defensively

The thing with point numbers is obviously that for Dmen they're incredibly tied to PP time. Like, if you only care about points fantasy style, you're better off with Adam Foote with a ton of PP time than Ray Bourque without any. With 4 forward PPs becoming standard, I'm curious about how much PP time a guy like Sender will get, not because he's bad at PPs but because Detroit might just have some bottom pairing offensive D around who can do most of what Seider does and rest him for harder minutes. Projecting points is really tough.

From seeing him in international play, I'm surprised he scored so many goals this season, but his puck skills and wrister absolutely belong on a PP. From that POV, I like the McAvoy comparison. His size and physical play may have some people thinking Shea Weber, but imo Seider's ways to create offense will be more subtle.
