Everyone talks about the big hits, but he’s very Hedman-esque in that he gets his stick on everything. His size, skating, and gap control are absolutely miserable to play against

Yep this impressed me just as much if not more. I love the hits but against some teams/players this just won’t work. The stick checking has to be there too.

Seiders 6'4, probably 215-220 lbs right now. The physical game will work against literally anyone in todays NHL. The fact that hes so good with his stick is a bonus but at most, theres going to be some guys who are similar size to him in the league. No one is going to be significantly bigger to the point that his physical game wont be an option

He's also still got plenty of time to continue to add strength and refine his game even more. His play thus far in the SHL indicates that he is absolutely in the conversation to be a franchise 1D. I'm trying to tempering my expectations but it feels like the sky is the limit with him.

Been there.
I have followed his development longer than most on this site. And every time I saw him and was blown away by his play I kept telling myself that he has still a long way to go, and I should not get ahead of myself. At one point somebody told he was going to be our (Germany's) D-version of Draisaitl, that was after during the 2016-17 season, when Drai was good but before he decided to turn it up a notch or three. At the time I scolded the guy and told him to hold his horses. I remember thinking maybe Seider can get to a similar level if everything goes right, but that rarely happens.

Then Draisaitl became one of the best players in the world and the same guy just last week told me again that he thinks Seider can become his equivalent on defense. And again I told him to calm down and to stop making ridiculous claims. But somewhere in the back of my head I thinking maybe there is a chance he is right. And even that sound stupid to me since Seider has not even played a single game in the NHL yet, but over the course of now roughly 6 years I have been following Seider's career and every time I thought I may have set my expectations too high he has blown right past them, so I think I'll stop making predictions and just enjoy the show.

I think that's exactly what SY and HA saw. His ability not only to adapt to higher levels of competition, but quickly thrive. They saw his ceiling as being much higher than what others believed. I also try to slow my internal hype train, but it's one thing to see a player do some of these things once or twice. It's quite another thing to see a player do these things game after game. That's the player he is...a guy who regularly makes plays that other's can't. He's got one more level to adapt to, and at this point I'm thinking there's no reason he can't.

Nah I’m not saying they’re too big. I’m saying they’re Barzal or Pettersson and they’re too elusive or McDavid and they’re too fast/shifty.

I wonder if a situation like that causes Seider to wear a neck guard in the NHL. Probably not, but that would certainly be an interesting story.

Damn I just saw that scary play. Thank God he escaped unscathed. That looked scary af.

The SHL has been very strict on neck guards this season and has been handing out a handful (by october 13th it was 26 players) of fines when they haven't been worn correctly. Maybe it was for the best and helped prevent a scary injury this time

Too fast for who?

Seider turns lightning into molasses.

It’s hard not to get excited when reading stuff like this. I hope you’re right!

Man I am jealous of the Wings for this player, what a beast.

Does the loan situation mean he can come back to the NHL if it starts in Jan/Feb? Or only back to Germany?
The way I understand it, he's locked into playing in the SHL for their whole season (into March, if I'm not mistaken). He can join the Red Wings afterwards.

Depends on how far Rogle makes into the post-season, but yes, that is the loan situation at present. There's an outside shot he sees 9 games with the Wings, depending on how the schedules pan out.
