concerning retaliation issues for seider after hits : if im yzerman im very focused on having a tough partner for seider to watch his back vs cheap shot artist stalking him . i want his partner to be able to jump in a guys face coming after seider and make him deal with him instead of seider having to constantly deal with attacks which detract from his game and increase odds of injury

Don't drink and post.

I dont know what the issue with Jovanovski is. Unless youre saying their style is different, if Seider ends up as good as Jovanovski thats a really good pick. He wore a letter in the NHL for 11 seasons and was good enough to play on a stacked team Canada at the olympics that won a gold medal. He finished 6th in Norris voting a couple times as well. He was also mean as hell the whole time

Try sign Jamie Oleksiak next offseason if he hits the market

They're completely different players. Ed was physical and mean, but he also put himself out of position to make the hit or sneak into the offensive zone.
Seider manages risk much better and doesn't take himself out of the play to make a hit. Seider is also a way better skater than Jovocop ever was.

Jovo was an awesome skater. He flew, man.

That being said, I think career-wise, seider will have a better one. But jovos career was nothing to sneeze at. His time with the canucks he was a mean 45+ point a season top pairing dman. Loved him.

Who knows tho.

Jovo was a good player for a long time. I also have the belief that Seider can be better. Still stylistically the guy he reminds me of is Konstantinov. He isn't quite as intimidating but that could change as he gets older. The way he hits, his offensive projects, etc. all remind me of Vladdy.

This is what I have thought. Best comparison to him is vladdy. Mean, creams people, chip in offensively, and elite defense.

I like Ohlund a lot and if Seider ends up being that kind of dman I would still be happy. That being said, Seider seems like a faster/better skater along with being more flashier with the puck, I don't remember Ohlund being that kind of player, he was always that tough stay at home dman that had some offensive flare on the PP.

Ohlund was a very good passer and had a great shot. I wouldn't rate Seider's offensive skills as better.
He didn't skate as well as Seider though.

You want an enforcer for a guy who's going to be 6'5, 225 pounds?

He has nowhere near Vladdie's hockey sense and playmaking ability.

Disagree, we didn't see vladdy over here til he was a fair amount older and seider is only 19 and improving massively every year. For a 19 year old defense first player to be at a ppg in the shl its impressive to say the least.

Not to argue he isn't have a great season and isn't a really good prospect, but he isn't a ppg in the SHL.

I didn't say Seider has higher offensive skills, that remains to be seen, but he's certainly flashier with the puck and seems like a better/faster skater.

seiders not the type of dman that generates lots of offense . but if you put him on a talented unit with guys that do he becomes very valuable to the unit via quick thinking and smart passing in a guy that can use reach and stability on skates to hold onto puck . yes hes not a high level pp qb , but he can play on a top pp unit and be very valuable if he has a talented qb dman on the unit with him . in this type condition seider will chip in his 40 points , ecspecially when he develops adult level hand strength to enhance wrister , while being a monster level defensive force .

sorry, are we talking Konstantinov here? was he ever known for his playmaking? I thought his points back then just came from being on the ice in such an insane powerhouse roster.

The guy is 19 y.o. defenseman. And he still has better PPG than Holtz, Raymond, Veleno, Hoglander, Broberg, Drury, etc. 3rd in the league among U23. Hedman or Karlsson had worse numbers in the SHL so... He is definitely not an offensive defenseman but that makes his numbers even more impressive.

Watching Rögle games, even though he had a nice point streak there that just ended, his offensive forays were not as impressive or noteworthy than his defensive acumen though. before we go overboard with his PPG. I wont be surprised if his points dry up later on, I will be very surprised if his defensive game drops off though.

Yes. Vladdie had insane hockey sense and was a great playmaker who could be counted on for 25-30 even strength points per year.
He didn't sit back on the point and pound bombs. But he jumped into the play as well as anyone in the NHL.
He was the classic Russian unit defenseman.

But the goals don't tell the story.
