Would be fun to watch seider and stutzle try and drag Germany to a medal. In a few years that German national team will have

Draistl
Seider
Stutzle
reichel (17th overall pick this year)
JJ Peterka (34th this year)
Dominik Book (25th in 2018)

They may actually have a respectable team in 5 years or so if they keep developing 1st rounders.

Seider has nothing to prove at the WJC level. It would be a waste of time and a needless risk for him. He is arguably the best player in one of the top-5 leagues in the world right now, as a 19 year old, in a league that historically is not kind to young players. He doesn't need to bother with the WJC. As soon as he can be on an NHL roster again he'll be playing in the NHL and will likely never see the AHL again.

It would be so fun to see seider leave a bunch of North American children in the infirmary...especially after all the years of "soft euro" this and "soft euro" that, that is present in hockey culture.

(I'm canadian)

If Don were still on the air he'd probably do a Coaches Corner just filling out Seider's citizenship papers for him.

Aside from Covid risk, I can't really agree with this statement. There have been better players than Seider who had plenty to prove at the WJC- especially for a country that's just starting to develop a great program. The tourney will begin before the NHL does, so he wouldn't miss more than a few weeks (depending on quarantine) and a WJC is a perfect training camp.

There's no guarantee that Seider will immediately be able to play 20+ minutes a game with special teams ( although I think he probably can). It would be discouraging to have him be on the bench or a healthy scratch the first week of the season while his country struggles without him.

Depending on Covid situation, I'd send him and let him return to the NHL in prime shape.
I was under the impression he was locked with SHL for the season, but I may be mistaken. Playing in the WJ is more disruptive (COVID & Quarantining) and the competition is lesser than SHL. It’s fine for players that aren’t playing in top Men’s leagues right now, or who aren’t getting the ice time they want.

Edit: I see he decided not to go for himself. Deleted my post.

Read it in the quote below. Just a heads up, he can't come to the NHL during the WJC's because he's obligated to finish the SHL season.

... Also there's no way Detroit would bring him in and then immediately healthy scratch him.

No way a guy who has never played in the NHL could be healthy scratched? Disagree. It's becoming more common too. Several high 1st round picks have been healthy scratched early on to drag out their 9 game stint if they're from CHL or to let them practice with the team if they're not ready to play every game yet (especially back to backs). Obviously, the most extreme example is Hayton. Another example would be Draisaitl in 2014.

Not saying it's going to happen, but to say there's no way a 19-year-old rookie could get scratched is a stretch.

It also happened with Puljujarvi... Worked out great.

Teams generally don't call up blue-chip prospects so they can sit in the press box.

He is arguably the Wings best D-man when the season starts. Yes that speaks to who is on the team and some of the problems, but you don't want to healthy scratch Mo Seider for some of the other guys on this team. He is flat out dominating the SHL after being a #1 D-man in the AHL last year logging upwards of 25 minutes a night on occasions for the Griffins. His planned nine game treatment was actually supposed to take place in late March of last season.

It also helps that the only real question on Seider seem to be trending towards how much offense he has. To date he has been exceptional in his own end, great skating, smooth, physically dominate at times with the pros as well. He has also played 3 pro seasons, he isn't really your press box learn to see the pro game candidate. He will barring injury more than likely go directly from the SHL to the NHL to finish his season.

I do expect him to go through some rookie struggles. However he is too physically gifted and is dominating at his current levels, he is going to be pulled up as a result and because of the team he is joining has plenty of opportunity to earn ice time and given how he has played since the spring of his draft year I just don't see this being the transition in terms of lots of press box. Kind of like when Larkin played a lot as a 19 year old, I expect Seider to do the same.

Yeah, he's easily our best prospect since Larkin. He's tracking more similarly to Heiskanen at this age than not and it's looking ever more likely he will be franchise-level RD. While the ball is not out of the park yet, it is certainly flying higher than nearly anyone expected; other than Dach, I cannot think of any other prospect I would rather have from the 2019 Draft.

I'd go as far as to say Seider is a better prospect than Larkin was.

With that being said, I think Larkin turned out better that most people expected when he was 19.

Flying higher than Kakko? Hughes?

I think Wings fans are going to be super disappointed if they're expecting Heiskanen-level production.
I think he's going to be the first defenseman to 20-minutes a night from this draft. But I'm nowhere near sold he's going to be most valuable defenseman from this draft, let alone best player in the draft.

After D+1 year, he's on another level then any other defensemen from his draft. Yes, everyone develops differently but the early signs point to Seider being the most valuable defensemen in this draft. Add in his start to the SHL this season with him showing improved offense and he looks like he has #1 D potential.

I absolutely love Seider, but I absolutely love Byram too. Seen Byram live a few times and his hockey sense is outta this world. I'd say it's 50/50 on who becomes better between them.

I actually wanted Byram to fall to Detroit and I don't think you can go wrong with either prospect. I thought Seider looked better at the WJC last year so that combined with his start in Sweden this year gives him the edge for me. Although with Byram not playing yet this year and Covid and everything, I would definitely understand an argument for Byram.

Blues did it with Pietrangelo.

Brent Burns also played only 36 games in his rookie season.

It happens broseph.

Some of the other prospects, like Broberg, have always been known as guys were going to need more work.
Seider is way ahead of a lot of guys because of his size, maturity and pro experience.

And he played some decent hockey too. One might think there is a reason he had this pro experience heading into the draft as opposed to other European prospects. Also maturity in gameplay does not level as quickly as you indicate, it is fair to say Seider looks like man among boys - while actually playing among senior pros.

Broberg has similar size and pro experience. "Maturity" is in my eyes just another word for hockey IQ, toolbox, whatever you want to say.
