It seems Rögle didn't release him for wjc
EDIT: Apparently it was Detroits decision to not release him

Selfishly, I'd like to see him at the WJC
He was dominant already at last year's WJC. Sending him there again is pointless.
Yeah, would have made it fun to watch Germany again, especially considering this year they should be able to be more competitive and win a couple games. I understand Detroit's decision though, they clearly view him as NHL talent at the moment, so let him keep playing well in the SHL.
I really don't think it was his own decision. He was always really proud playing for germany and never quited of playing for national team. Looking at the press release it underlines my suggestionObviously we won't know for certain, but I really hope Detroit asked Seider and he said he didn't want to go to the WJC. Seems to me that if the player really wanted to go, Detroit would have let him go. Why risk upsetting/disappointed a young player. I realize hockey is a business, but like all businesses it is a good idea to keep your employees happy and content.
I can see Seider not wanting to go to the WJC again, given the risk of COVID and exiting and re-entering whatever bubble he is currently part of while playing in the SHL. It isn't quite as simple as other years. Yet, I hope the decision was ultimately Seider's and not Detroit's.

True enough! But I think Seider is more NHL ready than for example Zadina in 18-19 though, as well as this being a special year with Covid.Disagree, some teams send guys who have already played in NHL. It's the top players in the world in his peer group so still plenty of competition. In addition it's also a great experience and showcase for these kids and an honor to represent their country. I mean the AHL is a harder league than SHL but the Wings still sent Zadina to WJC in 2018-19 and Seider last year while they were playing for Grand Rapids. Unless Seider didn't want to go for whatever reason, this kinda makes no sense to me.
Power is also not going.
I'm getting the sense that this probably has something to do with international travel and quarantining. Might lose Seider for two weeks before and after the tournament just to quarantine. All that for a team that has no chance of making it to the medal play with or without him.

This and doesn’t the WJC go past January 1st? Maybe Detroit wants Seider in their opening night lineup? He was dominant already at last year's WJC. Sending him there again is pointless.

Then, to me, it makes no sense for the Wings to keep him out of the WJC. Maybe Seider wants to stay with his SHL team, and the Wings thought it best to say publicly they were keeping him out rather than it coming from the player?I believe it has been determined that he must stay with the SHL team until their season is over, at best joining Detroit very late in the NHL season.

Moritz Seider, the Detroit Red Wings' top pick in the 2019 draft, has decided not to play in this year’s World Junior Championship.
Seider, 19, was Germany’s captain at last year’s event, when he tallied six assists in seven games. This year’s WJC will be in Edmonton from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
Red Wings assistant general manager Ryan Martin said the club supports Seider’s decision.
“We left it up to the player,” Martin said. “He has made the decision that he would like to continue playing with Rogle (in the Swedish Hockey League) as opposed to the World Juniors. We would have been supportive of whatever he wanted to do.”
Seider weighed several factors, including the travel, having to spend time in a bubble and having to miss several games in Sweden.
