Just turned 50. I personally didn't do what Miller did....but I can honestly say that I've been on both sides of the bullying issue. I've been both the bully and the person getting picked on. As have most kids in this country.

Ever hear of a "swirley"? They were quite common back in the 70's and 80's. Older kids would drag younger kids into the bathroom and stick their heads in the toilet, then flush. It was a common occurrence at our school and many others of the day. When I was a freshman, I was on the receiving end of one. When I was a senior, I was on the giving end. Nothing to be proud of, for sure, but kids do stupid things.
I never even heard of anyone at my high school giving or receiving a swirly. Maybe you saw more stuff than I did since you were probably in high school significantly longer than I was.

I don't think you know what those words mean considering this story was public in 2016 and despite that he still has gotten a full ride scholarship and NHL draft status...but yes, getting criticized on the internet has dEsTroYeD his future lmao. Get a grip.
One thing the oMg CaNcEl CuLtUrE crowd never acknowledges is that people very rarely actually get "cancelled."

This kid did some awful shit and people are mad he was cancelled. No, he wasn't cancelled - as you said, he got a scholarship and drafted to the NHL - if anything he got rewarded by society.

You see it all the time, talking heads whining about being "deplatformed" in the op-ed section of the NYT, a platform where they have more reach than 99% of humanity. What they're really concerned about is tangible consequences for the bad things they've done, because they can look back and see they've also done them, and are therefore threatened by the current backlash.

So soft.

4 years?

Maybe you grew up more sheltered than I did, but swirleys were very common back in the day. Google it.

I hate sjws too, but i also hate assholes and idiots. This kid is both an asshole and an idiot. I wouldn't employ him that is for certain.

Outside of those cancelled for sexual assault, there has been just about no one negatively affected by cancel culture (I can think of only 1 guy). Some, in fact more than who have been hurt by it, have cashed in and profited from supposedly being cancelled.

The people who have and still whine about SJWs and now cancel culture are all crusading and outraged because people on the internet criticize people who do bad things, seemingly equating that criticism to jailing them and taking away their freedom even though it never does. It's hilarious they collectively have such a lack of self awareness that they can't see when they are being the "outrage mob" they claim SJWs to be. Those, many of whom are internet free speech warriors are suddenly very opposed to certain kinds of speech if it criticizes or mocks people they like (or barely even heard of in Millers case).

Not sure why we have posters defending this racist abusing piece of shit but it just shows your true colours. It's so sad we still have people defending this shit. This was not f***ing bullying!!! It was abuse!!! And it happened for f***ing years!!

Hopefully this doesn't get filtered because I think it's important to remember and learn from. But 10-15 years ago, does anyone remember how English slang had gay = stupid (That's so gay, you're so gay etc.)? It took a long while and I don't remember what the tipping point was, but it took a while for the LGBTQ+ community to finally explain to the masses that that word usage was hurtful and painful for their community
What? How could you forget the tipping point?!

You honestly dont see a distinction between going after someone for their actions when they were a child vs actions by an adult?

So, it doesn't matter if its a child or an adult. Everyone should be held equally accountable? There is no distinction in your mind?

criticizing this kind of behaviour is not "going after someone" in a way that makes Miller a victim now like you seem to think. You're more outraged by people criticizing what he did than you are about what he did to that kid for years with no signs of remorse to this day. Clutch your pearls a little tighter.
Nuance is officially dead.
and you killed it by pretending your posts were nuanced lol.

"Outrage" isn't the word I would use, but it is concerning to me that people are going after someone for what they did as a child...as if there is no redemption possible. I always thought that we didn't hold children and adults to the same level of culpability for their actions.

Nuance means understanding that there is a distinction between what a child does vs what an adult does and factoring that into the conversation.

It's funny because when I asked you to respond to me - after I politely responded to you - about his actions as an adult you completely avoided the question about his actions as an adult. It's almost like you don't actually want to have a discussion and instead just want to insult people.

Right it's you doing it not some "sjw" so of course you wouldn't call your outrage "outrage".
You whine about a nuanced conversation, yet you came here admitting to having read very little about the topic and made your dumb assessment. You can't have a nuanced conversation when everyone else except you has read up on the topic, and your pulling shit out of your ass and then accusing others of lacking capacity for nuance when they refute your argument lmao.

We don't, he could have been in jail or sued for assault if he was an adult. Hell combined with his frequent use of racial slurs towards Isaiah it could even be looked at as a hate crime. People can always strive to redeem themselves and get better. Hunter, the other bully felt remorseful for his actions and honestly apologized to the poor kid that they bullied and guess what? The kid forgave him. Miller hasn't done anything of the sort, if he had I'd hope most people would look at this as "he was an asshole but he's trying to be better" but based on the fact he's never personally apologized to his Isaiah, it's hard to believe that's actually true.

A judge, the victims family, the majority of NHL teams and 95% of the posters in this thread are all wrong.

It’s me, coming into this thread with an agenda and admittedly not having all the facts, that is correct

What on earth is this thread about?

I'd really rather not delete about the last 4 pages but if people keep replying to obvious tangents and going for poster criticism (instead of topic discussion) I'm going to have to. Said slash and burning of the last 4 pages will be accompanied by forum bans.

Practice some self control and stop replying to tangents taking this thing deeper down the inevitable this thread ends up getting locked rabbit hole.
