No, I'm questioning why a lot of posters think that he's going to get some comeuppance on the ice because of this.
Oh he absolutely will if he ever makes the NHL (doubtful at this point). Kid basically cancel culture'd himself before he even got in. Complete clown show psychopath/sociopath.

I understand your point. I think some posters are trying to rationalize Miller’s continued behaviour (bullying a mentally disabled child) and his consequential lack of remorseful empathy.

His lack of empathy is certainly sociopathic, right?

I suspect guys at lower levels who have nothing to lose will have no qualms about lighting him up; there aren't any mental gymnastics required to understand why this would be a motivator for those fellas....

Without reading this entire thread, I wonder what I'm missing:

1) Miller bullied this special needs person in the 8th grade using racial insults and other disgusting things.
2) Miller later publicly apologized, though not face to face with the person he bullied.
3) The mob believes that Miller should be canceled for life because he was an idiot in the 8th grade.
4) And nothing he can do from this point forward should ever allow him to live it down and move on with his life.

Do I have it right?

nope, that's just the narrative of the whiners who think internet criticism of the abuse of a mentally disabled kid is a form of violence against Miller that takes away his liberty and freedom. Nice of you to join them.

No, you don’t have it right. Miller’s abuse of the mentally disabled child was on going, and continued for two years after the court ruling. Miller, according to accounts from the presiding judge in the case, failed to show any remorse for his actions. So no, you don’t have it right. Perhaps you need to do some research, which can begin by reading the entire thread?

So, what do you believe should happen to Miller?

1 ) Miller bullied from 2nd grade to 8 grade.
2) Miller apologized to people he didn't bully, which isn't an apology. Was also noted for his lack of remorse by the court.

After 2), you missed that :

- Miler continued to bully afterwards, with the last instance being two years ago

So... I'd say that you missed quite a lot of things, which, in retrospect, was very predictable.

It's not up to me. People can think and say what they want about it, no one's posts here or on twitter are taking away his scholarship, his draft status nor are they putting him in jail. Whining about this and cancel culture because people are saying "this is bad" is very silly and very telling.

I wasn't aware that the bullying occurred after up until 2 years ago.

Regarding bullying that happened from 2nd grade to 8th grade......there is nothing uncommon about that. Kids can be cruel. It's been going on since the dawn of mankind.

I'm sure most people (including mysellf) have done things at that age that they are ashamed of. Including many of the people online throwing stones at him.

You’ve come to your own conclusion after admitting you didn’t read through all the evidence.

Great contribution thanks for coming out

So, what do you believe should happen to Miller?

Aside from all the very important details you very conveniently missed, such as glossing over his behaviour as "bullied this special needs person in the 8th grade using racial insults and other disgusting things"...

Bottom line is:

For the NHL to be actively promoting anti-racist stuff, having a franchise draft such a guy is not a good look. He doesn't have to be cancelled for life, but he should absolutely not be allowed to play in the NHL. His life will still be comfortable, he just won't be playing hockey for a living. A person like him does not and should not be put in the public spotlight in a position where kids can look up to him as a model. This is so far beyond posting stuff on twitter.

Don't forget that what happened in the 8th grade was the crescendo of years of bullying leading up to it. And that he was seen rollerblading by his victim's house multiple times in the weeks after the incident that caused him to convicted of assault. The fact that even after all this time he hasn't really taken responsibility for his actions is concerning. I don't think he necessarily needs to be cancelled for life because of what happened when he was a kid but to say that his behavior is anything but concerning is suspect to me.

Moreover, it is a travesty that the Coyotes drafted him as it signals that they are desperate for talent even if that talent is attached to someone who has not shown honest contrition for his abusive behavior.

I didn't "conveniently" leave out any details. I read one single story online and I didn't take the time to read through this entire thread. I wasn't being facetious when I was asking what I was missing.

I can safely say that I, at no point in my life, thought about tricking a disabled teen into eating candy I pissed on, called him racial slurs, and smashed his face into the wall. If you think this is normal things most people, including yourself, have done, then I think you need to reassess what type of person you were growing up and how you may have impacted those you did these types of things to.

I can also safely say that the things I do regret, I apologized profusely for.

bullying happens all the time. A years long pattern of singling out 1 individual and routinely abusing them both physically and mentally with use of racial slurs is not very common. This isn't a one off or a couple of incidents years apart. This was something that happened on a regular basis until he finally got caught on camera doing something awful.
I don't know what should happen to him, but he's attracting more white knights than your average damsel in distress.
this site is always a good example if you want to show people how the people who whine about sjws/cancel culture/outrage culture engage in the same behaviours they complain and rail on about, just for a diametrically opposite "cause".

What do you think will be the long term consequences to the mentally disabled child, who was the victim of these continued abuses?

Were you ever a kid? Were you ever bullied? You act as if Miller is the only person to ever bully someone, and the mentally disabled child was the only one to have ever been bullied. Kids can be absolutely mean and cruel. The hope is that as they mature into adulthood, they learn that bullying is not acceptable.

I'm not excusing bullying behavior, but we don't need to go to extremes here either.
