Always amazing when people know what a teenager will become.

Do me a favor and tell me what Aatu Raty, Robin Salo, and Samuel Bolduc will become? Thank you!

Prospects are drafted based on their potential / tools. That is why some go 1st overall (hedman, dahlin, power, ...) And others go in the 8th round.

I do not profess to know how good Mailloux will become but it was an average to weak draft and he was not slated to go very high. Can he become a 50-60 pts dman while playing solid defense 23 minutes a games, yes. How likely ? Less than Powers, Hughes, Edvinsson based on scouting reports.

Obviously. Just mentionning these names in the thread is an honor to his play.

MB took a ton of flack for this pick. It partially cost him his job. If Mailloux ends up around what he could be, MB's legacy as a draft guy will look much better than what is perceived today.

Yes he made some poor reads defensively today. Definitely some work to be done in the next couple of years to tighten up his defense.

Defense can be taught more easily than offense all in all looking like an impressive start to his season here.

The Knights have also added Kirill Steklov to bolster their back end.

Are these 2 additions enough to make them one of the favorites in the OHL right now?

There’s going to be a lot surprises from that draft year because players couldn’t be scouted as well as normal due to all the league closures.

Loved the pick from day one and loving it even more now.

Fair enough as you did say so at the time.

That being said while I understand different teams have different lists there were other NHL more projectable Dmen available at that pick who were less of a project than Mailloux.

But his size, skating and offensive package was probably the difference to the Habs and maybe they didn't think that he would be there at 63.

IMO he probably would have been but that's something we will never know... well at least not for some time.

Evan Bouchard lite?
Look at what Bouchard did in the OHL leading up to the 2018 draft compared to what Mailloux did last year.

They’re different caliber prospects. Bouchard went 10th in a strong draft, that was loaded with dmen, and he slipped to 10, he was expected to go higher.
That’s not an insult to Mailloux to say he is behind Bouchard, it looks like he is progressing nicely.

Imo there's 0 chance he was there past 40. I think Timmins said he had info a team was going to take him in the early 2nd.

I still think it was a reach given the circumstances but it doesn't really matter at the end of the day.

Why would we trade him if he demonstrate he's actually a good prospect at RHD, a position of need for the habs?

You don't think that the same sh*tstorm will occur when he shows up for training camp next fall. I have said, and will continue to believe that Mailloux (though, by no fault of his,) will never play for the Habs.
