Steal? He was projected as a 25-40 pick. He was picked exactly where he was supposed to go
Early on he was in the top 15 but after the scandel he dropped down to 23 -35.
You have him later because of ?
I have him still in the top 15 because of his skill and potentail.

""All off ice issues aside the Canadiens hope to get this young prospect back on the ice as the organization feels they have stolen a top 15 talent with the 31st overall pick""

Bold claim if they believe he is a top 15 talent.

they must be shocked to know that they could have gotten with an even later pick instead of a 1st round pick and the attention that goes along with it.

It was the right move on his part, and Bergervin had to go f*** it up for him.

Get the spotlight off yourself, put off the perception that you paid some kind of penance and tried to straighten up and redeem yourself. Instead Montreal put the spotlight right back on him and now the narrative is he did something wrong and didn't pay for it at all.
No matter when he was picked the narrative was always gonna be he did something wrong and didn't pay for it at all. Guess all it took was a GM. with balls and the understanding that he was getting possible a top 15 pick in the 31st spot was a now brainer. Now because the Habs did we/he even gets more hate. As a Hab fan ,i love it.

McKenzie literally had him ranked 35th in his final ranking.

And loving that your team is getting hate over picking a player who just got in trouble, who didn't want to be picked, is just weird. Bergervin did a disservice to the organization for picking a kid in that kind of trouble in the wake of the Blackhawks scandal, he did a disservice to the kid for picking him against his own wishes, and he did a disservice to the girl for pouring lighter fluid on a smoldering story.

And if you don't believe that, why did Montreal wait to release a statement on the pick until an hour before Free Agency opened, when they knew the story would get buried?

Ya imagine a 25th and 31st pick could become good .What a thought.

Nobody contested, "Good". "Insane", was where the laugh was had.

Im still of the belief he should have not been drafted and waited until next year spending this year being educated and doing some PR work to try to atone for his reckless behaviour. Even if it was a draft need for Montreal its still stupid optics.
