Remember the young dynamic Subban? He flashes a lot of that to me.

Physical, big shooter, loves to get involved but Jiri is an even better skater.
No, Jiri isnt as good as prime Subban was.

Hes similarly fast to post 2015 Subban but doesn't have anything near the same edges as PK had.

The talent and play style, I do agree. I think Dave might see the ice a bit better.

Not only Jiricek is already much better than a prime Subban, but his IQ makes Subban looks like a fool. There is no comparson to be made, Jiricek is just a much better all around defenseman.

Best comparable for Jiricek is Seider. He is no contest elite level.
Lol, Subban was a norris winning trophy in his prime wtf are you on son.

I was also talking about skating.

He won the trophy over half a season and Letang was more deserving. This season was rather isolated in his career but at his prime he was still an elite defender. I would sign to see Jiricek at his level.

Subban was absolutely an elite defenseman but his prime was very short lived. I definitely think Jiricek could surpass him. He doesn't have the defensive game of Seider (few do or will) but he is a bit more dynamic and creative. I think teams will regret not taking this guy first in a few years.

And lol @ Letang deserving the Norris that year

It's fun to read the takes.. honestly if he ends up being better than gudas or Hronek and I'm happy! And ftr.. I love both those D! Here is the ladder he needs to climb to be a success..

Hajek
Zboril
Rutta
Gudas
Hronek

Anything here would be a godsend!

The 2012/13 season was Letang's career peak. Surely the best defender in the league at this time.

Better point average with a large gap and without forcing, better defensive game and systematically aligned against the best offensive trio unlike Subban.

On an NHL game, his value would have been 92. Subban was helped a little by his media coverage.

Hajek is horrible and Hronek sucks defensively. The rest is average, except maybe Gudas.

Let's pump the brakes here. Jiricek has a lot of work to do on his defensive game if he ever wants to be a 1D. His one on one D-zone play needs a lot of refinement, as well as his positioning and body work. He's not even close to current Seider in that regard. Though I admit I've got no clue how good Seider was defensively in his draft year. Jiricek definitely has the potential to fix his D-zone issues... his upside is as good as anyone's in this draft.

He strikes me as the kind of guy who can learn/improve pretty much anything if he really puts his mind to it, so I'm pretty high on him. Right now David looks more like Brent Burns/Aaron Ekblad hybrid - offensive specialist with quite of lot of defensive issues but with a huge two-way potential going forward.... whether he will reach it remains to be seen. It will depend a lot on which team drafts him - he needs patience and development to truly blossom. Detroit would be perfect in my eyes, but they seem to be pretty D-heavy with Seider, Edvinsson, Wallinder, McIsaac etc...

FTR I've watched pretty much every game DJ has played over the last 2 years. Many of them in person.

He's better than all those guys and it's not even close
In the future I certainly hope so but today he's an underafted 18 year old who has never set foot in the NHL. Zboril was also a first rounder. Hajek was a very early 2nd rounder. Both are almost busts now.

He's also on the same team as Hronek and Simek this month at the world's. I don't think he'll be playing 25 minutes a night while those guys cheer him on from the 3rd pair?

But I do hope he surpasses all of them as we need a tippy top guy past Hronek and an aging Gudas. We have nothing like that today and haven't in a very long time. Shouldn't take too long as it's not a good list at all.. maybe 2 years to catch everyone but Hronek. 3 years for him.

Makar didn't go straight to NHL, neither did Seider or Power. NHL D take team, even elite ones.

Except there is zero chance Devils pass on Slafkovsky for Nemec or Jiricek. Especially with Hughes and Mukham on their way within the next couple years. And they are beyond set at center. I don't even think they'd take Cooley over Slaf either. Heck, they might not take Wright over Slaf. They need a winger, a power forward exactly like Slaf, in the worst way. The top two picks are all but written in stone atm. Wright and Slaf, book it. .

Jiricek and Nemec I'd think likely going picks 4 and 5, unless Yotes make a big mistake and pass on Cooley. But I don't see any chance the Devils pass on Slaf.

Jiricek will be a perfect franchise D for Seattle.

If you think that highly of Jiricek, how do we know the Devils scouts won't? And Slafkovsky strikes me as a player that could have some erratic evaluations, just like his erratic scoring.

They just need a winger, particularly a power forward, so exactly Slaf, more than pretty much any other position except maybe a young stud goalie.

And with Hughes, Mukham, Smith, Hamilton, Graves etc... they really don't need another Dman. Even if the scouts loved Jiricek, I think it would be foolish for them to take him over Slaf. Slaf is a little divisive. But even if they are iffy on Slaf, he;s the player they really, really need. He has all the makings of a legit stud power forward. If he busts he busts. But he's the type of player you have to take a chance on if you don't have one. I would bet my car on it. Granted, it is only a Chevy Cruse.
