Great story. You would never know he missed an entire season plus some. Like others said, he was Colorado's best player all preseason, and ultimately forced the Avalanche into keeping him. I don't think for a second that the Avs planned to before the season started, he's just been that good.

Timmins is playing well thus far in the AHL.

After last nights game it is actually 12 points in 17 games which is insane for a rookie D in the AHL that just missed a whole year of hockey.
Really happy for him. As can be seen in this thread I was always a fan of him. Hopefully the dark injury days are behind him.

IMO he needs another offseason to focus almost exclusively on improving his skating because if he can improve that by a notch or two, the sky is the limit for Conor.

Glad hes lookin good... always been a big fan of his... wish we coulda snagged him before he started showing his worth(granted im sure Colorado management already knew).

But I def would have considered moving rakell for a package around him

Wanted to give an update on him for those who don't follow him since I might be his biggest fan on these boards. I value him almost as much as Byram in the sense that he has top pairing potential. And everytime he has played since being drafted he has just improved/excelled. He gets thrown into a lot of trade proposals around here but I'm pretty sure the Avs view him in the same light as I do, so he's almost certainly unavailable for anyone available this deadline (maybe Jeff Petry nonwithstanding).

Anyways. World juniors he was equal to/better than Makar (albeit given a much bigger role), then gets the injury. He's held out for an entire year and comes back to training camp and earns a roster spot outright, far outplaying Makar during training camp and the early going. Gets sent down and produces a a really good clip in the AHL. Get's another injury to his lower body that holds him out a month. Comes back and puts up 9 points in his last 10 games. Bottom line is when he's on the ice he is an incredible player, and his injury woes are really overblown (many players like Bergeron, Crosby, skinner, etc. Have bounced back from similar injuries) and they have not hampered his development at all. He's just not an expendable asset and should be on the Avs 23 man roster come playoff time if they are trying to ice their best team.

Ya he is a stud. 19 points in 31 games in the AHL as a rookie after missing an entire year from a concussion. He is having a phenomenal season and the Avs are very, very high on him.

The only way he's entertained in a trade is if it involves a Top 4 RHD with term coming back(Obviously it wouldn't be straight up).

Otherwise, hes our future #2 RHD behind Makar and should be ready for that role potentially as soon as next year.

If I recall correctly there were rumours somewhere that it is Sakic's decision to keep Conor in AHL this year for some reason, but Bednar actually wants him with the big club. I could be wrong though.

I really like Timmins, but you can't pretend that injuries are a non factor. They can, and do, matter. Until he puts together a couple of years of injury free hockey, he will always be considered a risk.
Appreciate the update, though.
You can see it that way, but Sakic has no reason to negotiate with a team that is trying to use his injuries to diminish his value. Clearly if they are targeting him they don't see them as such a big risk, and therefore should be a non-factor

:habsSoon enough he will :habs

27 points in 40 games this season. How does he figure into the Avalanche depth chart for next season? Will he play another season in the AHL?

Depends on what moves the Avs make. I think Byram will be ahead of Timmins. Zadorov is likely traded. I think he starts as the Avs #6D with Ian Cole as a healthy scratch.

He's probably good enough to make the roster, but with another rookie (Byram) joining the team it probably means that Cole will be #6D and Timmins starts in the AHL.

That said, if Timmins has another camp and preseason like last year I could see him forcing the Avs' hand and making the roster even with Byram on it. If that happens I'd expect him to play with Girard rather than with Byram:

Graves --- Makar
Girard --- Timmins
Byram --- Johnson
Cole

I cannot see the Avs health-scratching a veteran like Ian Cole, more likely the case they will trade Cole to honour his seniority than scratch him. I think a more likely scenario is that Timmins starts on the first pairing in the AHL next year and eventually gets a call up sometime in the middle of the season.

They healthy scratched Ian Cole this year. Why you think they wouldn’t do it when he’s a full year older and the Avs D is more improved is a little puzzling.

He won’t be healthy scratched 82 games. An NHL 7th D still is usually able to play 60+ games due to injury. Chances are there’s some small tweak or illness that likely even gets him into the season opener but I don’t think it’s crazy to suggest that’s where Cole will be on their fully healthy roster. Hell, that’s probably where Cole is right now on a fully healthy roster.
