Sens' brass showing a little patience and not bowing down to the excited expectations of the fanbase.

Not many defencemen who have just turned 19 start in the NHL.
Yup^. NHL can be very tough on young Dmen. If Yak goes back to the WHL with some pretty clear direction on what they'd like him to work on, giving him another year to fill out and mature both physically and mentally, it can only be a good thing.

We all want instant gratification from our high draft picks, but that's simply not the way development works. OTT will be better for it as is, long term.

I appreciate you not pointing out how well my take aged in light of Yakemuch being assigned to the WHL.
Bad teams rush prospects. Hopefully OTT is going in a positive new direction, and is done with doing dumb shit.

I don’t like the “9 games” thing. I think you should either know going in whether you want someone in the NHL or not.

I probably would’ve kept him in the NHL. I thought he earned it, but being cautious won’t hurt him or the team.

Was easily my favorite D prospect pre-draft, so it hurts me that I'll have to watch him play for the Sens.

Think sending him back for one more year is the right call. He's going to Calgary brimming with confidence after that camp/pre-season and will have time to iron out the little things. Should be good to go next year.

What he needs to improve upon really needs to be done at professional league level against better talent. Reacting to speed and changes in speed. Talent needs to be challenged not stagnate.

Even if you don't keep him up for all 9 games I can't see a downside to starting Yakemchuk in the NHL so this is a questionable decision to me. He's obviously going to dominate the WHL this year with his mix of size and skill, so why not give him a taste for what the next level will take?

Relax folks guys come up and get 9 games or more not necessarily at the start of the season.

Just wait until December when its clear Ott is out of playoff contention.

ehh....he'll play on a really good WJC team in a great tournament, and get in his 9 games with OTT at some point. Should be plenty to keep him challenged. He is not going to be spending all his time "dominating the WHL".

If a junior player goes back, can’t be recalled unless on 3rd emergency call up.

In December he likely will be in Ottawa, but for the WJC

I was more impressed with Yakemchuk's assist. Good start to the season, 3G 3A in 4 games. Looks like a .500 team instead of the bad team last season, but I'd say he still gets traded to a contender. Very thin defense, his LD partner is a rookie.

The Hitmen are thin on D, but it's a little surprising they're spreading out the "big" guns by putting Yakemchuk, Hurtig, and Hamilton on different pairings instead of rolling Yakemchuk with one of Hurtig or Hamilton to free him up to dominate (instead of covering for a 16/17 year old rookie)

Left off the Team Canada camp roster. Between this head scratcher and Parekh, Hockey Canada seems intent on not reaching the GMG for a second year in a row.

Yakemchuk was dominant at the Sens camp and pre-season.
It seems unfathomable to me that he was left off the roster. I really haven’t watched enough of the other guys to truly give informed comment but if they have 6 better Dmen on team Canada then gold is a lock.

Seems like they are looking for more of a defensive right side this year in their bottom 4. Yakemchuk (and Parakh) don’t really fit into that mold as much. It also wouldn’t be the first time team Canada left great players at home because they didn’t fit into their rigid plan for team composition.

I’m a Sens fan and although it’s a bummer he won’t be playing on home ice, im not going to lose sleep over it.

I feel bad for him and Sens fans.

Hockey Canada, like all these other national hockey federations, is an old boys network that hands favors to their friends children, picks players on intangibles, toughness, grit, the types of things no one wants to see.

Leaving him off is crazy.

Canada likes 2 way guys over heavily offensive or defensive ones on the backend. But should have 1 guy to run the PP.

They also like to have great PK guys on their 4th line or checking line.

Seems they have decided to go with Dickinson on the PP. Were already going to use him everywhere else, and is leading the CHL in ES points with 27, and 2nd in PP points with 18. His emergence offensively essentially took the offense boy guys out of the running.

And then Schaefer taking likely a 7th spot as well. Both played a large part in their exclusions.

Canada very old school. 2 scoring lines. Checking/PK line. 4th line is energy over more offensive guys. Heard they left both Iginla and Sennecke off as well since neither PKs really.

But, should Canada be down in the 3rd of a key game, might want to have that extra offensive player or two. Guess that also means that the top 6 F don't really PK.
