well i look at it like montour is a young guy who deserves a chance to establish a career. he wants to be able to maximize his income potential and play in the best pro league, it could be as simple as just getting an answer from the ducks on what their time table for him is

i don't see shea theodore going back to the minors he just looks ready, so you got him, plus the other 4 young dman who are all under contract. if you do bring montour up and decide to put stoner and bieksa on the bench you then have a very young blueline, albiet very talented....

so at some point there has to be a trade to make room, and maybe montour is the one traded for a forward, but it could really backfire just because of how dynamic he is

They would most likely trade one of the "older" players. Montour, Theo, and Larsson will be cheap, and as their vets start to age, they will need all the good players on cheap contracts they can get. Don't think the Ducks will move one of those three unless they have to for cap reasons.

It makes sense for Toronto you mean.

As a basis for a trade and considering the depth they have, I stand by as a BASE for a trade, Stoner+Montour for Kapanen +? makes sense.

I originally said Polak so you get 1 million in savings and keep a RHD with some grit, and 1 year less on the contract.

I also said I would add in a non-1st round pick as well, which is pretty decent value on its own.

Maybe something around Kapanen + Polak @1.25 (2 million savings this year) and a mid round pick, for Stoner+Montour?

Edit: If Polak in general is the issue, would also do a Peter Holland type F. Just would want (IMO) to make it 2 contracts for 2 contracts.

If we were to trade Montour it would be to acquire a young scorer of equal value, not divide his trade value into lesser prospects and contract dumping.

It makes no sense to send a kid with this trajectory away unless we are getting someone of equal trajectory back.

Absolutely love Montour.

This is the guy Leafs should go hard after, even if it means paying a hefty price. High-end RHD prospect stuck behind some depth. I just have a hard time seeing what a good trade would be. Perhaps Kapanen could grow into a main piece coming back if he keeps things up over the season.

Kapanen has a lot of trade value... he's in absolutely every trade proposal thread on HF.
There is no way Anaheim does that with Kap being the major piece coming in.

He's in every trade proposal because he's a high value prospect in a position where we have a ton of redundancy (Marner, Nylander, Brown, Timashov, Johnsson, Leipsic, etc) so he's expendable for the leafs if we can shore up in a position that we don't have much depth, namely RHD. I'm sure you've noticed that Anaheim has a few prospects come up regularly in trade convos - Montour, Larsson, Theodore - everyone realizes that the ducks are deep at the position so this is an area you can afford to trade from, same with the leafs with winger prospects

The main criticism of Kapanen has been is lack of production since the draft, he's finally getting quality minutes after being blocked by some of the aforementioned prospects on the Marlies last year, and he's sitting at 1.5ppg at this point and he's not lucking his way into those points. He was drafted in the first round as a high-upside winger, just turned 20 and putting up gawdy numbers so far in a league that 20 year olds don't usually - if he continues to produce do you really think he's not a valuable piece?

that's fine, just saying that's why they end up in the proposals, not because the team wants to get rid of them

position makes a value difference for sure, but high-ceiling talent in any position is valuable

Theodore called up and the Ducks over the cap. I would gladly take back Stoner for you guys if Montour is coming our way ahahahaa.

(I'm just super high on Montour)

They're fine with the cap. Theodore going up and down is what happened with Bobby Ryan a few years back.

Aha, never mind then. I have to get over my love affair with Montour unless we could actually get him. I'm just very high on him. Kid's offensive potential is downright scary.

Does anyone have a highlight reel that's newer than 2013-2014 for him?

for as highly regarded he is around the world of hockey(and this site nowadays), there really is no talk or video montage's of him. I get such a kick out of how not talked about he is

Its crazy how his hockey career has skyrocketed....

Plays Midget/junior B as a 16 year old...
Plays junior B as a 17 year old...
Plays junior B as a 18 year old...
Lights up the USHL as an older unknown guy(62 points in 60 games)....
then gets drafted to the NHL as a player 2 years older than most in his draft in 2nd round...
then back to USHL for a half a year due to NCAA complications(21 points in 17 games)...
Then plays NCAA last half of the year(20 points in 21 games)
then plays end of AHL season after his USHL/NCAA season(10 points in 14 games)...

Now has put up 63 points in 72 regular season games last season and so far this season and is an AHL allstar and a lot of fans say he is the best player in the AHL and should be in the NHL

CRAZY!!!!

Most people Ive known that are playing Junior B as a 18 year old know they are going nowhere in hockey and are just playing to screw around

US West-Coast prospects definitely do not get exposed like the rest of the league. Admittedly all I can do is stat-watch with him, I'd love to see what the hype is all about

He started playing hockey seriously at like age 17 or 18, he was more into lacrosse I heard in his interview, which makes his learning curve even more insane. He is just naturally gifted. Supposedly he had scholarships to any school he wanted for lacrosse too.
