Besides ASP just being a better player flat out, the bolded is exactly Detroit. 3/4 of our future top 4 is likely 6’6” Edvinsson, 6’3” Seider, and 6’4” Wallinder, but none of them are elite offensively. There’s room for ASP.
Think it’s why they actually drafted him without an ounce of concern. Don’t forget Tuomisto too. Another 6’5” player who’s looked very good this summer, and in camp. ASP is gonna have a lot of open ice with that group.

Those two picks in the 23’ draft couldn’t have looked any better right now for Detroit.
+ Cleveland 6'5''
+ An.Johansson 6'4''
+ Gibson 6'3'', Keenan 6'3'', Phelan 6'3'', Mathurin 6'3'', Buium 6'3''
+ Moore 6'2''
+ Al.Johansson 6'0'', Viro 6'0''

Besides ASP only other 5'11'' d-prospect in Detroit's system is Kyle Aucoin, AHL d-man at best.
NHL coaches have a size fetish, so you better be an amazing player or play for a team with a clear need for a smaller defenseman that can skate, move the puck, and contribute offense.

Incredible skating, poise with the puck, breakouts, transition game, o-zone game obviously elite. Fine defense (hasn’t been on for a single goal against yet).
Wow, copy paste that from your favourite prospect writer?

doesn’t mean shit When his size is going to deter him from ever beung an impact player in the nhl let alone be the ”drafts biggest steal” 4 months after the drsft.

Why are you so butthurt? Watch him actually play, he is playing lights out. Did Kronwalls size ever deter him from being "an impactful player"?
I guess we should stop watching games and just base our opinions on size, seems to be working out great for you.

Who pissed in your wheaties? Everything we have seen from him, not just highlights or stat sheets, but full game viewings, make it abundantly clear that many teams likely wish they had drafted him when they had the chance.
I’ve already made my peace in this thread. Don’t re-open this can of worms.

This is a very good point. Do you mind sending this to Cale Makar and Adam Fox so they can retire and stop wasting roster spots? I can back you up if you need co-signers on the Instagram message.

They’re the exception not the rule. 4or every Fox or Makar, there are 15 Brannstrom’s, Soderstroms, Lundqvists.
If you think Sandin Pellikka can be Makar or Fox, you’re are setting yourslef up for major disappointment.

Depends on what you consider "Elite offensively". If you're looking for a Quinn Hughes or an Erik Karlsson, Seider and Edvinsson ain't it. But if Seider's shot continues to develop, he could very well end up a 10G - 15G, 50-60A guy as Detroit improves. Don't think Edvinsson's ceiling is quite known at this point.

I was pretty insistent there was no way Detroit was taking ASP. Granted, that was mostly arguing over #9. My whole argument was he doesn't fit what Detroit, or more specifically Yzerman, was looking for in a defensemen. After all, I think it was something like the Top 3 rounds he hadn't taken a sub 6 foot defensemen since Tony Deangelo.

... But in hindsight it makes perfect sense. Got a bunch of two-way giants on our blue line. Gotta change it up with the elite potential small PMD.

Among the Top 10 scoring D last year:

1. Erik Karlsson - 6' 0" 190lb
2. Josh Morrissey - 6' 0" 195lb
3. Quinn Hughes - 5' 10" 180lb

5. Brandon Montour - 6' 0" 199lb

8. Adam Fox - 5' 11" 185lb
9. Cale Makar - 5' 11" 187lb
10. Vince Dunn - 6' 0" 200lb

7 out of 10 within an inch of ASP.

It's crazy that there's absolutely no other outcomes in between those tiers of players.

None of those players you named failed because of size.

Keep parroting bad faith arguments with 0 substance, though. It’s entertaining.
