Waivers aren’t happening. They can still trade him eventually if they want. I don’t think they’re going to give up after 4 games.

It’s hard to tell how much is the groin injury, & how much is rust. He had very little game action in a long time before these 4 games. Missed the end of last season injured. Then was hampered by injury for most of camp/preseason.

In any event, if he doesn’t sharpen, he’ll either start rotating in & out or go on IR.

He's been horrible for more than 4 games. It's actually been about 600 games.

Charlie said around the Ristolainen extension that the analytics department presented their case not to make the move. They did the same with the initial trade as well. But too many of the hockey people in the organization wanted Ristolainen & determined the analytics are misleading when it comes to him.
So it wasn't Fletcher insisting on the move and the extension?

Sounds more like a bunch of dino advisors pushing for "more size, more hits" - the problem with consensus decision making and keeping people in the loop - what if they're the wrong people?

What will get interesting is if Torts decides Risto is a lost cause, he had nothing to do with the trade or the extension, so he has no CYA issues. With any luck, it may result in some senior advisors getting their phone calls blocked.

Chuck Fletcher is THE hockey person in the organization.

JFC.

All of the dino advisors are cut from the same cloth as this piece of shit. They think the same exact way. That's why he was hired in the first place.

Fletcher was definitely among them, and definitely the most important of them. Since Fletcher and Flahr are the entire management structure.

You know, Fletcher coveted and pursued Ristolainen for years.

It doesn't matter what Tortorella decides Risto is. Until Fletcher is fired, his prized one-legged pig with its liver dangling on the outside isn't going anywhere. Tortorella is not the GM.

Imagine Clarke and Co firing Hextall because he didn't let them meddle with the team enough, then hiring another GM who disagrees with them and also making him president.

News flash, they the Crony-archy hired someone who thinks exactly like they do, it was the whole reason they fired Hextall in the first place.

Doesn't mean he thinks like they do, it means he knows why the guy before him got axed.

No he said Fletcher & Flahr were part of the hockey people that wanted Ristolainen. They coveted him going back to when they were in Minnesota & made attempts to acquire him even back then.

They’re still there. I don’t really think it’s like that. In like the early 2000’s when analytics was creeping in baseball. Teams essentially hired these guys as vanity projects. It was just interesting things for them to look at but ultimately they just used it to confirm their beliefs. Whatever went against it was discarded.

A lot of these analytics people NHL teams hire are people that are on the internet/social media beforehand & after having small subscription types of work out there for the public. So you can get a gauge through them how these things go.

f*** you minnesota. f***ers couldn't just go ahead and get risto at the time

How in the hell is this team in a worse cap situation currently than Minnesota? Those guys are paying 13+ for parise/suter for nothing and still have more cap lol.

They got rid of the guy who ruined their cap situation. Our cap situation is still being actively ruined by the guy who ruined theirs.

i dont even know how the next gm can fix this with all of these long term injuries

like Wtf are we supposed to do to get out of this cap hell? What can even be done with ellis? Is there any update on atkinson? Imagine we have to put ellis, couts, and atkinson on LTIR every year....what a disaster

So the management group that got rid of Hextall, because he didn't think like them and wouldn't let them make hockey decisions, turned around and hired Fletcher, another person who disagrees with them, then made him president?

I want some of whatever it is you're smoking.

Fletcher has always behaved like he behaves now. This isn't some front to appease the Olds. It's who he actually is, and it's why he was hired.

I don’t think it was because a lack of trying. Prior to their current regime Buffalo was pretty poorly managed themselves. So I think there was reluctance on their part to trade him because they foolishly thought he was actually good too.

Buffalo quietly has turned into a well ran organization for the first time in like decade plus since Kevyn Adams was named GM. They’re making a lot of modern/analytically sound decisions within their organization right now. They look like a legit up & coming team in these upcoming years with the way they’re operating.
