The Flyers need to get some value for him. There have to be teams that see a big RHD and think that they can fix him.

Tons of GMs are stupid enough to pass on Ghost for free or at a profit, it should be assured one of them will pay for Risto.

The challenge is that we have one of the worst GMs in the league, so will he even recognize that Risto has to be hauled out?

I don't think so at all. The league probably is uncertain about Risto b/c Buffalo was a weird situation.
Turns out, playing for AV this season was just as weird.

no one knows what Risto is after hundreds of games
no one wanted him in the offseason, so maybe everyone have already known what he is
After he played for our bad system at the latest, now everyone knows what he is! He stinks as anything other than a 5th or 6th dman without special team usage!

he is worth 1 - 1.5 per year! nothing more!!!

With Benning and Bergevin now fired, he becomes harder to trade

Multiple teams were offering a 1st rd pick plus last offseason.

It's amazing to me that Cuck still has a job with those two gone. He's easily got dibs on worst GM in the league now, right?

He's definitely up there with the likes of Dorion. Also not a big fan of Doug Wilson in San Jose. Nashville could use a change from Poile too, who has been their GM since they came into the league..somehow.

Dorion is just a mouthpiece, so I give him a pass. Eugene is definitely running that show. Doesn't make him a good person, but I atrribute most of Ottawas general failure to him being too involved and not letting Dorion actually do his job.

Poile and Wilson are probably the top contenders I had in mind, but feel like they kinda pale in comparison to Cuck at this point. I feel like Benning was the only one head and shoulders worse than Fletcher. Bergevin was kinda level.

LeBrun: Hurricanes' negotiations with Dougie Hamilton, Kraken prepared for big free agency, Flyers shake up roster

It was a steep price to pay on Ristolainen, our Flyers beat writer Charlie O’Connor doing a deep dive on that trade over the weekend.

But what I will tell you is that there were at least two other teams I’ve confirmed as being willing to move a first-round pick plus another asset as part of a Ristolainen deal, and other teams were also making offers, so that drove up the price on the Flyers.

At least Dorion got decent value out of Karlsson and Hoffman when the entire league knew he basically had to trade both. Hard to know if he was the one that limited the trades to the west, or if that was Melnyk. Pretty good return on Stone too.

Fletcher... has not.

Risto is Fletcher's only questionable deal.

Hayes was market value, and Fletcher was hired with the mandate to win now, Hayes and Duchene were the two top centers available. Duchene got 7/$56M. Pavelski was the third option, 3yr/$21M at age 35. Whether he would have signed to a team in the East is an open question. If Patrick was healthy, he might have been a target as a stopgap. After that the pickings were very thin - center and RHD are the two premium positions in FA. You wanted Filppula back?

Braun was good value for a 2nd and 3rd, Niskanen for Gudas (1 yr left on his deal).

Ghost was gone, AV didn't want him, and no one wanted to take him for "free." Fletcher tried to give him away. The Kraken asked for York as the price to take his contract.

Voracek for Atkinson is a draw, Voracek gets a lot of assists but can't score goals, Atkinson scores goals and is a good PK guy. Voracek is more talented and more expensive, Atkinson more flexible.
Voracek 24g 0-10 10 ES
Atkinson 23g 7-5 12 ES

Everyone else was added as a one year deal, which suggests Fletcher was hedging his bets when it came to AV, if AV crashed and burned, the roster could be quickly rebuilt with youth as early as this spring - trade Risto, Brassard, Braun and maybe Giroux, cut Yandle, Brown and Thompson, bring in Allison, Laczynski, Brink, Cates, promote York and Zamula.

I realize that Myers wasn’t in the Ristolainen trade but I’d rather have Myers than have Ristolainen. Just wonder if Fletcher offered Ghost in that Ellis trade and was turned down. However, I believe that Myers was one of the guys that Vigneault abused and destroyed. He went from a competent World Cup participant at a young age to something that AV wanted to put on the bottom of a bird cage.
Last season Myers was hurt for a good part of it but went out and did the best that he could within a horrible defensive system. His reward for that was to be scapegoated by Martini Man and then shuffled out of town. He’s not Bobby Orr but there is a lot to his game that the Flyers never developed. Two seasons from now, Nashville is going to be happy with having obtained him.

.

It appears you've forgotten the Ghost trade, Voracek trade, bringing in both Thompson and Grant, bringing Thompson back, his waiver antics, the needless shedding of draft picks, signing Yandle, the Talbot/Stolarz incident, deciding Jones was the best option over all others, doubling down on his coaches, hiring Lappy, etc.

You don't get a team as degraded as this one is with only a single questionable decision.

Myers has been benched in Nashville for 27 year old Matt Benning and 32 year old Mark Borowiecki. So that's equivalent to being benched for MacDonald and Hagg. We'll see if he ever develops.

Patrick went on IR on October 27 with an "undisclosed upper body injury." "Nolan Patrick is at morning skate today in a red non-contact jersey." Yes, been there before. One more hit and his career may be over.

We actually know why he's been benched. Because they need to fix our failed development process.

It's not an indictment of Myers, but of the Flyers and how they're managed.
