1. Canada
2. Sweden
3.USA
4. Russia
5.Finland
6.Euro
7.Czech Republic
8. U-23 North America

I believe Finland always as a decent enough team, but I'm pretty conflicted on putting them above the Euro all stars.

Btw, I can't wait until the 2020 World Cup and they give up this Euro and U-23 team, the qualifying tournament leading up to 2020 will be exciting to watch

What I can predict is than the Europa team will be the last team cause, lots of guys wont show up and the one who ll show up ll have a lack of motivation.

^^

I don't know if I agree. If someone doesn't have any motivation to play, why would they even bother to show up? It depends. No one knows at this point and we can only debate.

If teams and not collections of players, Finland is at worst 4th. It is just a silly exhibition tournament though.

Add two "different" teams and suddenly it's just an exhibition tournament. That's how it works? Watch the level of the tournament, the level of the actual games, then tell me it's an exhibition tournament or not.

It's the best players against the best players. That's what I see.

I agree, some players visibly don't like it, but not everyone is against the idea:

"It doesn't make a whole lot of sense," Streit said last week in Buffalo. "I'm not a big fan of it, not at all. I think it's a nations tournament and you want to play for your country and you take pride in it every Olympics and every World Cup. ... It is what it is. I love to play for Switzerland, I'm sure guys love to play for Slovakia and Czech and Sweden."

"I think the guys are trying to make it competitive and the best possible tournament it can be. If that's the case, that's the way it is," Kopitar said. "Just the thought of being part of a World Cup would be a very fun experience."

Slovak goaltender Jaroslav Halak of the New York Islanders said "10 years ago it would be upsetting," but with just 13 players from that country who have appeared in at least one game this season, it's an idea he likes.

Also, not sure if everyone knows this, but
....anyone that age (U23) will not be eligible to play for Canada and the United States.

"I think they'll (Team U23) work together and determine how to come to those thresholds," Daly said. "They've both expressed a lot of optimism in terms of their ability to work together on this and to be something that comes together really quickly and isn't contentious at all."

Drew Doughty of the Kings said he didn't think Canadians and Americans would want to play together. But there's also the danger of Canada and the United States having to play the Young Stars, made up of players from their own country.

Daly said that "they don't love the idea of the North American stars beating one of their teams or competing against their flag." It's possible the Young Stars may be put in a different pool than Canada and the United States.

The winning team will receive $1 million to split between the national federation and players and the second-place team will get $500,000.

I must agree with one poster on ctv.ca, that the World Cup is still better than olympics in many ways (more time for teams to prepare themselves for the tournament, a best-of-three final, more NHL players, if a player gets injured he has time to recover before the SC, unlike when the olympics are on, NHL(small) ice, NHL rules and referees, and the players like H.Sedin who won't be injured from already playing the regular season) I fail to see how this won't be an interesting tournament. Very interesting for me and I can't wait.

It was an exhibition tournament even without them, look it up. I have said it about previous world cups as well.

The NHL sets the rules and it doesn't affect IIHF ranking.

World cup -sweden
runner up- team canada over 24
then the rest i guess...
Khl-less finland
team usa over 24
khl-less russia
khl-less czech republic
euro mishmash feat. Kopitar
under 24 all stars by mountain dew

On paper ranking:

1. Canada

2. USA
3. Sweden
4. Russia
5. Europe All star
6. Finland / the Czechs
8. NA U-23

I'm pretty sure that the European all-star team can even beat Russia, if the players take it seriously. I mean, Gaborik, Kopitar, Vanek, Chara, Josi, Hossa, Ehrhoff, Halak, Grabovski, Nielsen, Boedker, Eller...they definitely can if they play as a team. It will be interestng.

sweden (with proper call ups this time, im gonna give'em the surprise no1)
canada
usa
russia
czech (underrated: with proper call ups and coaching as well, i could see them having a good tourney)
u24 NA (suspect G and just the fact that they have no veterans who could help in this kind of competition)
unwanted nations squad (questionable motivation)
finland (i know they will prove me wrong as always, but if you just look at the roster, they are solild and pesky... but thats kinda it. D depth is not looking good, and no high end offensive threats)

I can see good chances for both Euro all stars and Under 23. Considering that U 23 will be super motivated and All stars will play without any preassure, they can easily win some matches. Especially against teams who sometimes struggle with work ethic - like czechs or russians. Once I hear our player saying "we gonna play against kids tommorrow" I will know that we are half done :)))

So could Slovakia and Switzerland. The leftovers, however, will not take the tournament seriously and there's a good chance for participation refusals under the guise of an injury.

Canadian über men. Why even compete when you already know that Canada will smack the rest of us backwater hockey enthusiasts into the stone age?

I think the US will have a pretty good team. They are clearly the TOP4 nation and the small-ice factor obviously helps too. I can't see anyone besides Canada ahead of them. Their goaltending is strong, their defence is strong and they have better bottom-six than Sweden, and maybe even the top-six, with players like Kane, Kessel, or Pacioretty.

Because it's fun.

:sarcasm: but seriously....I was talking about paper ranking.

1. Canada
2. Russia
3. Sweden
4. Europe All Star
5. Finland
6. USA
7. Czech Republic
8. North America U23

And it's so important for you to point out how much better Canada is "on paper"..
Whatever. Go bananas

I'm sorry if I offended you.

I believe Sweden could have a good tournament, but you need to have all players healthy.

Oh, I like this already: people underestimating Finland because it looks weak on paper, now has that ever happened before?

To go along with team leftover and the U-23 team here are my suggestions for the GARY BETTMAN'S 1st ANNUAL WACKY WORLD CUP!!!

1. All African-American team (P.K. Subban and Malcolm Subban)
2. The over 40 team (Brodeur and Jagr)
3. The all concussion team (alot of talent in this pool of players)
4. United Russian-Ukraine team (It promotes world peace)
5. The Eskimo National team (Jordan Tootoo and Ted Nolan as Coach)
6. Team Foligno (Enough Said!!!)

I cant wait to hear the fans of team leftover chanting there countries name from the stands.

"Lets go team Germany, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Lativa, Switzerland, Norway, and Austria."

If anybody buys a ticket to see this nonsense, I am going to slap them.

How great would it be to have team leftover vs team U-23 in the finals.

If team leftover wins the world cup, which country do they fly back to for the celebration.

Which under-23 player wants to score the goal to knock out team canada or team USA in the world cup.

WORST IDEA EVER!!!
