I would think Lafreniere has a lot more value than Zegras.

I tend to agree, but it wouldn't take much of a plus given Drury is scrambling.

Well as a fan who follows both teams, I can safely say Zegras is better defensively; he's no Selke candidate but he's gotten himself to average and makes a legit effort, whereas Laf is still pretty piss poor in that respect. So if Laf is also not better offensively ... well what the hell is he better at then?

One guy has two seasons where he was more productive than the other's best output. The question for one is can he get back to it, the question for the other is if he's even capable of it.

One guy is on a bridge deal until next year, so he can be paid if he performs, or not paid/traded if he doesn't. The other is about to have a 7 year extension kick in at 7.45m, which I think very few teams would take on right now without a sweetener.

At this point it's fair to have doubts about both, but only one requires an expensive commitment until he's 31. If they were both on bridge deals then maybe, but Laf carries tremendous financial risk at this point while having shown a lower offensive ceiling. It's not like he's even drastically younger and deserves more runway ... they're like 6.5 months apart.

Laf is scoring at like a 40 point pace since he signed that silly contract. To act like he is somehow far and away above Zegras is comical.

Both young players who have similar (realistic) top six ceilings. Lafreniere is a winger who can play a heavy game. Zegras is a centre who can put up points. If they both reach their ceilings (imo) they saw-off. It’s an even trade. The only difference yo me is current contracts.

Kings have moved on from the premise of paying huge assets for a goalie. I've pointed this out to you in detail. That not so bad contract is all the Rangers.
