I think there will be some regret over trading McDonagh if he goes...it could be many many long years before they ever have a defenseman as good as he is no matter how many picks they get.
But the flip side is always, does it make sense to hold onto a guy in his late 20's who's probably going to be getting $7 mill on a new contract that takes him into his mid 30's when you're also selling and resigning yourself to not being a contender? Not really, but it's still going to hurt a whole lot to see the defense without him if he is traded.
All I know is, I'm betting on that team to win the cup if it happens. What? Weren't we 9n some kind of run trading away a player and then they instantly won a cup? Richards and Hags just for starters. Right?

Vesey isnt a bad player,i just think too many people on here overestimated what type of player he was going to become or thought he would become in this league. For a cheap bottom 6 player who will chip in 15+ goals a year, what more can you ask for?

Miller & Vesey. Two guys who I expect the Rangers to consider part of their future core. Two guys I consider will be universally hated on HFNYR in a year or two. Especially after JT gets that 5m AAV.

Miller I'll give you but Vesey? C'mon. Most people dislike Vesey, and those of us that are ambivalent about him wouldn't give it a second thought if he was traded.

People on HF, maybe. I'm still waiting to see how the FO values him which will likely come by what kind of deal they give him this off-season.

I suspect that HF majority opinion and NYR FO opinion vary wildly on basically every subject discussed here.

I'm skeptical of the notion that the front office is loving what Vesey brings to the table. I'd expect he gets a small bridge deal or is traded.

I think it's evident at this point that fans likely had unrealistic expectations for him because they did too much reading and not enough watching.

Guess we'll see.

Dude is actually exceeding the expectations I had, to be honest. And like, wildly. I didn't think he'd stick in the NHL. I don't think he deserved to be in the NHL all of last year, but that's a conversation from another time and not for this thread, I suppose.

I don't think Vesey is disliked as much as he is around here.

HFBoards has always had it's own separate culture, even when compared to other boards.

We have our weird quirks around here, such as over-projecting bottom six/bottom pair players, and undervaluing top six/top pair players.

We also have a healthy dose of people who are smart, but sometimes tend to overstate their knowledge of things - particularly when it pertains to eras and time periods that they probably weren't old enough to truly understand.

One Nashville fan seemed receptive to Zucc for Fabbro and a 1st. He isn’t Poile, but maybe there’s a chance, ya know with the whole prior Greeley connection and all

I can get behind them selling, get behind them being patient, using their picks/prospects and any new ones, waiting for all that to mature while plugging in some cheaper, short term vets here and there to help transition/shelter,

but

If this is just a retool where they expect to exchange this current group of vets they are selling with a similar yet different group of vets, by using free agency or future for now trades, this summer, I'm not sure I have much faith in that.

LeBrun reported the Central division teams are all looking for a top 6 forward and they will bidding on the same group of players. Pierre spoke to Poile. He is making a trade for a winger.

Nash to Nashville just because it makes sense. Would be a decent James Neal replacement, who they are missing on the wing.

1st +Aberg? I've liked his game, but he is a little older (will be 25 by camp next year), but I do not see them moving any top prospects for Nash. Maybe Zucc as mentioned above.

mcD is a top pair (number 2 imo) defenseman. The only way we get a top pair D back is if he is an unproven stud prospect, otherwise why would a team trade one top pair guy for another probably older onn in McD. Doesn’t make sense which is why I think we get a stud young offensive prospect and a number 1 pick

lol a number 2, Im not going to discuss value of him but can you name 31 defenseman better than him? sure hes a number 2 if he gets dealt to LA etc but you naming 31 dmen better than him Not gonna happen.

Actually its very plausible to find 31 better defensemen than him over the last three years (including this season). His all around play has been declining, while never being offensively gifted. He still takes the number 1 spot on id say 5-6 teams, including the Rangers in that number, but the argument can certainly be made. You have to go down the list and compare, who would you say is the Number 1 out of the two, player X vs McDonagh. I think you find it difficult as yout get into the 25-31 range, without being biased.

Too bad you can't like a post more than once.
