I do root for them in the moment. But sometimes I’m up at night thinking about how horrifying our draft position will be, while simultaneously missing the playoffs.
And that's ok. Draft position only means so much. A great prospect is just that - a prospect. Clear-cut draft decisions often look a lot less clear after a couple of years. I'd rather watch this team learn how to fight and win. We are on the cusp of something here. Lets enjoy it.

Georgiev made some gutsy saves in that third period and overtime. Big time battle level from him. In particular that OT

As a goalie I’m offended that Panarin shootout goal counted. Trash lol

tony May have dislocated his shoulder. Don’t think he took an OT shift and he’s usually number 2 in shootouts. That may be bad news

no Kreider in OT did something happen there too?

that’s a game we’ve lost all year. Big time win by the boys
Thought ADA opened the OT. No?

Flyers won and Blue Jackets got a point. The team is still 9 points out of a playoff spot with 2 games in hand. They’d still have to jump Carolina who they have 1 game in hand on and Florida who is even in games as well.

I’m hoping this recent surge doesn’t change Gorton’s long term view point. It should just reaffirm the road this team is on is a good one and to stick with the plan. One more year of revamping and this team is dangerous.

deangelo started OT but not sure if he played after that shift

Oh thank u sir! So very much for bestowing this upon me. I am unworthy.

This team is going to miss the playoffs.

AGAIN. And rightfully so because they’re in transition. They’re about 2/3 torn down... and about 1/3 built up.

We can keep building by signing UFAs for top dollar and maybe they (really him since we can only afford 1 more) will come as advertised like Bread.

Or, and hear me out here, we can build a team through the system by drafting high and often.

But u do you with ur “rah rah” Feb 13th win against a mediocre team on the cusp of their own rebuild as being an obelisk of achievement.

We are building in 3 ways. FA, draft, and trades. We have had 6 first round draft picks last 3 years and multiple 2nd's and 3rd's. It's not the end of the world if we don't pick top 5 because we are still going to have 2 1st's this year if/when Kreider is traded.

Voted Panarin (always do) and Fox because I thought literally everyone else was awful or invisible

I agree with you as I can probably count on one hand the times I haven't voted for Panarin win or lose as one of the top 3 stars of the game. I also loved Fox tonight as well.

But unlike you, I thought Mika played great as did Tony D. And Buchie also was very noticeable. It wasn't a great game by any means obviously but we definitely had more than two players play well tonight.

georgiev got better as the game went on, it won't make hank happy but i'd love to see them go back to georgiev again tomorrow night. let igor rest and get 100%, and showcase georgiev so he can show other teams that he is still the goalie he was the majority of the year and his recent struggles is the result of not playing regularly because of the 3 goalie situation.

I liked the win too, yet it's somewhat bittersweet beyond just the draft odds thing.

Much of the good was Panarin/Zbad.

Skjei was not good, to a lesser not good extent Trouba, Kreider.

Watched the whole game Howden/Lemieux I guess played. Chytil/Kakko has glimpses yet very much only that.

Fox was good, DeAngelo too but may be injured.

Buch was in my take very good.

Geo very mixed game

This is going to take some time, not really sure how else to put it.

See I feel that a pick in the top-4 this draft seals the deal.
There’s not enough talent, really talented forwards, in this system at all.

This is the system of “We got close” right now

I’m starting to realize that Chytil’s development is one of the most critical parts of this rebuild. If he can become a 1b center or better in the next 1-3 years, and if Zibanejad stays this way for another 6 or so years before he starts to decline, that will be huge. There’s a decent chance of both those things happening.

Fil is really starting to command the ice out there. He shows you a little more every game... As young as he is, he already is making other teams aware of his presence. I think this guy is going to dominate the rink moving forward, its gonna be a pleasure to watch

And if they have 2 1sts, not to mention other assets we could move to jump up in the draft. Some teams are just starting their asset accumulation and two firsts could be more ideal for a team instead of 1 top 7 pick.

Forwards in this draft are plentiful. If they pick 10-12, one will be there. If they pick top 7, one will be there. A lot of depth to this draft at the top.

3 on 3 is great imo. Almost always really fun hockey - wouldn't want to decide playoff games with it by any means but it's great for regular season OT.

Team ended up playing well and winning after all the whining and moaning in here midway through.

Thank f***ing God. If you guys heard a piercing scream on the tying goal, that was me. Sorry.

I’ve been through the gamut of emotions today. Was practically in tears before the game thinking about Hank and possibly never seeing him again as a Ranger. Was f***ing fuming throughout most of this game, with the absolute worst moment coming in OT when Skjei (from my vantage point) tried to make an abysmal hand off in coverage to Zib on that rush by...Fiala? And Geo had to make a huge save. And then absolutely ecstatic with the result.

I usually like to debrief and share my thoughts from games I see live. I have nothing.

I get that. I would rather have our young players progress than have a consistent losing culture, but I just really like Byfield and some of the other top forwards. And also I don’t want to be stuck in mediocrity. We need one more impact forward imo. Preferably a center.

Even if we don't get a Byfield which we 99.9% won't the trajectory this team is on with the talent currently here and the prospects who will be ready to pop in the next year or two, even if we didn't get a studly prospect in the draft this year, we still are on track to be a playoff team as soon as possibly next year and very likely Cup contender material 3-4 years from now.

So I'm going to disagree with you here my friend. We should be winning as much as we possibly can and build a winning culture here and that's why this year has been awesome. We are winning the majority of our games with the youngest team in the league and we very likely found the heir apparent to the King in Shesty, which is the most important thing that has happened

So more and more winning is the recipe for success NOT losing to move up a spot of two in, as I said earlier, is already a very deep draft where we should find a very nice prospect at the 12-13 spot or wherever it is we end up picking.

Georgiev isn't getting traded. Hank is done here and the team will move on from him in the near future. Face facts!
